Removed the air inlet pipe & moved the butterfly with my fingers.

Does not move smoothly, jumps, jams & feels intermittent in movement.

    160mile round trip, 4 hours & £250 lighter I have a new VDO/Siemens throttle body

Took the old one apart and confirmed its the normal failure, black plastic quadrant gear is fubar.

So is the replacement TB exactly the same or has it been improved?

Also any idea what causes some to last for ever and others to wear out, or do they all go at around 135k miles?

According to my research (readings Gup's post Most Lemon A6 page 9)
    4E0 145 950 has changed from rev C to rev J
I can't find any details on what the changes were.
I don't feel inclined to disassemble the new part.

Mine failed at 136k, looking at the design they will all fail

I was looking at a fix but don't currently have the time

Was it difficult to remove (refit)?
I bought a replacement for mine from ECP (VDO) but been sitting on it for a few months now waiting to get it done.

Easy, did in less than 5min at the place I got the part from.

Hardest bit is getting at the lowest of the 3 torx screws. I used a UJ and 200mm extension

Top tip use a magnet so you don't drop the screw

So from what's been said anyone with a 100k+ car should order one of these in anticipation for theirs failing in the future

    2 x ECP part no's for my 07 3.0 quattro Part No.: 422440800 = £318 (£232.80 from carparts for less) or
Part No.: 422440860 = £366 (£311.94 from car parts for less), how do I tell the difference...or is that given in Gups thread?

Seems a silly amount of money to pay for the failure of a plastic cog!

Managed to get to parking area but now can't start engine for longer than 1-2 sec. It is really frustrating, even if manage to keep the throttle for few secs it smoke a lot and engine RPMs gone crazy. Any thoughts ?
Might it be EGR fault ? But I dont see any errors about it...

    regards
    Karol
