Hi there everybody, first time posting!
Could somebody help please. I have a oil leak from the EGR valve.
Any thoughts as to what it dose, and if there is a way to fix it?
The oil seems to be comming out of 2 little holes just under the pressed steal cap.

    Thanks

The oil not supposed to be in the EGR valve, It is basically condensed oil mist that has accumulated over time in the air intake system.

If there is excessive oil It can point out to faulty oil seals on the turbo oil or a clogged crank case breathing pipe.

Are you getting excessive smoke from the exhaust?

Dont get to worried about this and its not a blown seal. There is a bout 1 litre of oil flowing around the intercooler system and the force of the boost pushes this oil around and blows out of the seals when they flex from the boost.Remove the egr and clean it out then remove the inter cooler and pipes and give them a good clean and drain the oil out of the intercooler. This isnt a fault but if you wish to spend yor money on new seals and retainig clips feel free to do so and a good clean out of the system will not do anyy harm, you couls go the full hog and remove the intake manifold and give it a good clean as there will be a build up of carbon and oil in there and better smoother running will be the outcome.Happy cleaning

I'm suffering a similar problem on my Passat.

The oil is coming out through the two holes either side on the upper area of the EGR nearest the diaphragm.

And as above, it is quite normal for an oil mist to circulate round the intake.

However it annoys me. Having sloppy intercooler clips that let oil weep out annoy me, having the trickle out of the egr annoys me!

    I'm not convinced oil out of the EGR through those two holes is normal though, my previous car, a PD engined Golf didn't do it so I've decided to junk the EGR and get one of these instead;

    http://www.allardmotorcompany.com/pa...pd_exhaust.asp

Other than that I think it would mean replacing the EGR, which must cost in excess of £150. The Allard bypass kit has to be cheaper and will be better for the engine.

Yes Big col it doesnt look good but failing that you would be looking at a turbo as that is where the oil is coming from, however once cleaned out they stay ok for some time.i like the egr bypass valve and suspect this will improve idle also you could adapt the fueling to improve even more performance to go with the bypass.Engine electrics 01 login code 12233 adaption channel 1 adjust the fuel balance to max and watch those wheels spin.If you require instruction post a vag com log and ill tell yer what to do in those adaptions

Cheers for that, however not intersted in performance gains.

It'd be nice to have an oil tight engine though, dumping the EGR is the obvious thing to do.

I just bought a new one myself today as it was annoying me the oil coming out of the sides onto the head cover. Cost me 265 euro around 175 stg from vw dealer. A lot of crap inside the old one. Cleaned the pipes out as well as these were clogged around casing.

    Hi,
Just looked at the EGR replacement pipe on the Allard website.
I understand the EGR bypass bit, but the original EGR valve body also houses the air shutoff valve that closes briefly when the engine is stopped.
What do you do about that when the bypass is installed?
Do you remove the control valve and vac. line for the shut off valve as well?

Sorry to break into your thread but....Oh no, oh no, oh no. I have just had my Passat 130 pd in to the local (good but not VAG specialists) garage. When we had the front undertray off there was a fair bit of oil weeping just below the intercooler. They told me that this meant the turbo bearings had gone and oil was blowing through.

Just spent £580 on a new turbo. Have I done a stupid thing?

PS Car's done 80k miles and has been pretty poorly maintained up the last 10k.
    Many thanks
