    Hi there,

About to conclude the purchase of my 204ps 3.0 TDI and while I like it because its fully loaded ( only missing couple of things ) I can't stop to wonder if the 245ps is much better due to quattro driving and s-tronic gearbox ( as well the boost in 41ps ) .

I've road test it the 204ps a couple of times and the ride is very good - although I can't really drive the car a bit more aggressive because well, 1st I don't know the car, 2nd I don't own the car, 3rd the dealer is coming with me.

Love to hear experiences from people who test drove both cars and decided for one - I'm really leaning for the 204ps, since its more economical, its a low mileage example and the 245ps versions there are here for sale are quite low on equipment and have higher miles.

I'm not expecting a fully engaging car to trash on twisty roads like my Porsche 911, but will the FWD audi still be entertaining to drive if I'm in a more sporty mood ? Or will always feel like a big VW Passat that is lowish on power ?

    Best,

    GP

I have the 204 2wd version and it is great for me. however given the depreciation of second hand A7's, I would go for the quatro. There can't be much difference in price. The list was £4K difference. I think the main difference will be a better gearbox for spirited driving on the quatro. Just wait until you find one. Lots on Autotrader and ebay.

The most noticeable difference will be the gearbox, you really should test drive a car with S-tronic and then decide. As for the extra power and quattro, 90% of the time you probably wouldn't notice the difference. On the other hand, if you already really like the 204 2wd drive car you're looking at, then just go for it.

I have 204ps quattro and s-tronic, have not noticed much difference between the two - both pull away pretty rapidly and handle well. Top end speed of the 204ps is lower, but I'm not a race car driver so no difference to me!

Good point on the 204ps quattro. I should have said only one winner of 245 quattro v 204 multitronic. 204ps quattro was also very good with S Tronic, the only difference being 7.2sec from 0-62 compared to 6.3sec with the 245. If the acceleration figures from standstill aren't too important then the 204 quattro with S tronic ticks all boxes.

http://www.zeperfs.com/en/perfs.php?Action=Duelhttp://www.zeperfs.com/en/duel3698-4741.htmI found the site at the following link useful for performance comparisons and while I'm not claiming it's 100% accurate I think it's useful for indicative figures. Unfortunately, they didn't have figure for the A7 204ps multitronic but the A6 Avant C7 should be close enough (first link); comparison with the BiTDi is at the second link and the third link compares the 245 Quattro with the Mercedes CLS 350 CDI.

To set up a 'Duel' with other cars of your choice use the fourth hyperlink.

    Hope this is of use.

Edit: for some reasons the links didn't work as advertised (the one that jumped to the top of the post for the A6 seems okay) but if you type in zeperfs into google and select the Duel link (from google) it is fairly straight forward.

you do have another option. if you get the 205 and after living with it you want that extra power you just simply get a remap, this will bring the 205 up to the 245 level.
