    Hi,

woke up this morning and driving to garage I noticed that the drivers door mirror is steamed up and hasn't demisted, everything else works folding in, turning the mirror from the button etc. The other side is ok everything works fine there.

Would it be seperate fuses? or one fuse for mirrors or could it be the element the heats it up.

Anyone can shed light on this would be greatly appreciated?

Probably a failed heating element, a vcds scan would show what's wrong.

You can get new glass on eBay easily enough, just make sure it's heated and if you have dimming then dimming too.

If you regularly leave the mirror adjuster in the central (ie on) position, the elements will eventually burn out.

    Hi,

I had the same issue but it was finger trouble on my part: both mirrors didn't clear. I discovered that the switch was not correctly positioned and when this was adjusted it worked fine. Your issue is odd though because one mirror clears.

On a related point, I thought my rear screen was very slow to clear and am not perfectly sure it is heating correctly.

yeah its dimming too, thanks Chris, I didn't know you can burn it out if its left on, wouldn't it turn itself off after a set time like the back window one? (relay)

Some come on with the ignition and are only active when the external temperature is below a certain figure (5*C?), some can be switched on and off - I think it's based on age (of the car, not you!)

On the B5/6 A4 and B5 Passat they would burn out if the mirror adjuster was left in the on position - one would assume the 'better' A6 wouldn't suffer from this issue, so perhaps you're right and it's just failed of its own accord.

I had one go on my A4 B8.

    Heated and Anti-dazzle.

    £257 from Audi... ouch.

Luckily it was changed under warranty.
