Personally Id hang on for a VNS to become available. It seems a no nonsense solution.

I thought the thread had been diverted to suspension Voldmar. So i guess the delay was keeping you in suspense (i know, terrible ).

The sound quality is very good, no audible difference from either audio or mp3 CDs. Track information appears on the MMI and small dash display exactly as it does for an mp3 CD and the navigation between tracks and different folders works just the same, so good integration.

In testing it found one mp3 track it doesnt like, Im currently trying to find out why that is so i know what to avoid when compiling USB sticks for it. Other than USB all other inputs are via a small 30 pin socket on the box which has interchangeable leads supplied, but there is only one socket so you'd have to get the passenger to do it if you were driving. It would be a very useful to be able to have leads for all 3 of these inputs in place so they could be used when needed.rather than having to swap them at the box. As the 30 pin socket on the box is a standard Apple type as used on the iPhone 4 etc I'll probably get an extension to run this to a more accessible position. What would be really good though but no one seems to make, would be an adaptor with 1 plug into 2 sockets as it would allow me to keep the bluetooth module and the aux lead connected at the same time rather than having to swap.

The instructions advised taking the +12 v supply from an unused fuse position but didnt specify which so I ended up with a + 12 feed which was only live with the ignition on. This resulted in the whole MMI then only working with the ignition on. A quick check with Naviservice confirmed it needed to be moved to a permanently live + 12 connection which i promptly did.

I will get some more info and picture sorted out when its not either raining or sub zero temperatures here.

I'm waiting on a reply from naviservice
Here is a pic of my kit I received
If anyone has the fitting instructions pls forward

That looks the same as i received. You have to carefully ease one of the fibre pipes out of the original connector, shift it into the new connector and put the new fibre tube end into the vacant space on the existing connector.

The existing connector has a small blue spigot which need to be retracted before you can remove and swap the fibre pipe.

I couldn't work out how to post the instructions which came in a 2 page Adobe PDF so have had to paste the relevant steps here without the pictures.

Step 1 Switch off the ignition

Step 2 Remove the CD changer with appropriate removal tools to gain access to connecting cables on the back of unit. Disconnect car installation optic fibre cable from CD changer. Put CD changer optic fibre plug into the optic fibre adaptor cable socket (1.). Connect optic fibre adaptor plug (2.) to AMI socket (B.) and the other optic fibre adaptor plug (2.) back to the CD changer.

    - Right, without pictures you are at a disadvantage so here goes my notes on step 2. [ follow my notes at own risk, usual disclaimer waffle..]
If you look at the fibre optic plug which normally goes into the back of the CD changer you will see a blue object in the middle of the connector, it is a lock to hold the fibre cables into the connector housing. Turn the connector over and you will see the blue piece appears smaller one side than the other. From the side where it looks smaller carefully apply gentle pressure using a small electrical screwdriver or similar, easing it out through to the other sideof the connector. Keep this safe.
The end of the fibre cable has a small clear plastic fitting on it. This needs to stay on the end of the fibre cable. The fibre cable is removed from the plug by pulling it out rearwards from the housing BUT take care, there are little retaining catches on the housing which need to be carefully lifted (only by a mm or two) to release the fibre cable. Use a very small jewellers screwdriver to do this and then the fibre cable should gently be able to be pulled out.

Step 3. Open the nearest fuse box of the car (the best one is the fuse box located on the right edge of the dashboard - as on picture). Put the power cable plug (3.) to the AMI power socket (A.). Connect the fuse plug (4.) to the unused active 12V fuse in the fuse box. Connect the GND cable (5.) to the GND (mass).

    - Well, the accompanying photo showed the fuse box but not which row of fuses. i wrongly picked a fuse position that was only live when the ignition was on, this wasnt right as it meant the MOST bus including the navigation, radio etc wouldnt work with the ignition off. It was easy to rectify but if you use a multi meter or bulb on a wire first you wont make this mistake.

Step 4 To start using external devices, put USB adaptor plug (F.) to the AMI socket (D.) and the iPod plug (E.) of desired option connection cable(iPod, Aux or Bluetooth streaming) to AMI socket (C.). On the power cable, there is a switch (6.) - use it to switch active audio source between iPod socket (C.) and USB socket (D.).

Thanks to chris and you guys for all the info provided.
I now have a fully working vns interface installed.
Decided to leave the unit in the glovebox so its easier to get to allow switching of ipod/ Bluetooth / aux
Works very smooth with clear sound.

I used the top row in fuse box for permanent live
At first the mmi would not come on but after switching the fibre optic wires around its all good now.
Bonus- stream DAB radio thru Bluetooth via phone- obv will eat ur data up!
GIFF GAFF sim £20 - unltd data
I believe chris is going to do an install guide and make it a sticky.....
Overall I think its a very good upgrade at an affordable price and a pretty straight forward install.
