Audi A6 Ultra

Just got my Autumn copy of the complementary Audi magazine. It gives details of a new A6 drive train option on sale early next year. Called Ultra it includes a new 190ps 2 litre Diesel with an S-tronic auto option. 119g/km £30 road tax. It quotes an S Line spec that sounds much the same as the current cars, except that S Line only comes with the S-tronic. SE is available as a manual as well.

That makes sense with the 'rumours' that have been mentioned on here. The new engine output brings the competition back up against the BMW 5 series where emissions are concerned.

In 2014 the new EU6 emission regs will be in force so audi will change their engine line up, improving both emission and power outputs. I've read this 2 ltr 190 bhp unit will be launched, if not done already, in the A3 initially.

I also read elsewhere on here that Audi are going to discontinue MultiTronic all together so that also ties in with an s tronic option.

It makes alot of sense to me that Audi rationalise there autobox offerings. Having three seperate transmissions for the same car seemed nuts. Dropping multi is an obvious choice, it must be the oldest auto in their lineup. I know it has its fans but I never could get my head round it from the first time I drove one nearly ten years ago despite that it has undeniably improved in that time. That plus the fact that when you get used to it the S-Tronic is a belting box, way better than the Merc 7 Speed in my opinion.

It's interesting that already in the UK Audi configurator, there is now a quattro based on the 3.0 TDI (204 PS) with the s-tronic gearbox..... it's about £2k more expensive than the 3.0 TDI (204 PS) with the Multitronic gearbox.... performance seems to be similar, but the Co2 higher on the quattro... if this model was available when I was choosing last year, this would have been the car i would have gone for.... not to say that I am unhappy with the car I got... but it would have been nice to get quattro

There has been the 204 PS Quattro in Allroad for ages. I would have gone for it too for the extra fuel economy but I wasn't taken with the Multi gearbox and wanted Quattro for the delightful winter weather round these parts so I'm having to 'put up' with the 245 !

Yeah I test drove one - although it was S-tronic....

But I think the Quattro version of the A6 was also available for some time .. maybe just not common. I know a chap with a 204 A6 on a 2012 plate, it is 2 wheel drive. He said he was offered a FWD version by the dealer when he got it - and his owners handbook also lists both drive configurations for the 204bhp engine.
