Hi, Just joined and this is my first request for help, I changed the standard head unit in my Passat Estate Sports 2007 to the latest Kenwood DNX521DAB head unit, fantastic, but my second project help is needed, can anybody please tell me if I can change my standard Steering wheel to Steering wheel with Audio controls (MFSW) and if this is possible what parts are needed and how easy is the modification upgrade as a DIY or anybody out there can provide this modification upgrade service to the steering wheel, your help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Bobby. V.

Don't do it and especially on a 6 year old car, it can be done but given how electrically sensitive the B6 is I wouldn't.

MFSW upgrade is easy, just get a quick scan of your steering control module and the part number will tell us if its compatible with MFSW, if it is, then super, but if not you'll need a new steering control ecu and go from there. You will then need a box usually provided by the manufacturer of your stereo to use the factory steering wheel controls.

There are a few sponsors on here who could help, NHN being one of them.

Chris is right. There's loads of info on how to do it. You can buy the entire wheel or may even be able to just get the buttons and cables on EBay to replace the two bits of black plastic on your exisitng wheel.

But before you start, check with Kenwood to make sure they have an interface unit that is compatible. Also, make sure you search out plenty of reviews of it, because some of them are problematic. I looked at the Pioneer one when I got my Golf but was disuaded by the bad reviews.

I don't know whether that Kenwood model is compatible with MFSW but check out the Connects2 site that has interfaces for MFSWs. I use one for my JVC and it does everything except mute * button and 'phone button. You're gonna need the wheel, controller, and possibly a wiring loom. And VCDS to code them because the car's electronic CANbus takes the control signals from steering wheel to radio

I originally wanted the latest Golf flat-bottom MFSW and paddles and was ready to shell out for that and install (plus hi-line display) with Hazzy Dayz. But because I had dual-stage airbags couldn't go that route. So had the standard MFSW and paddles for my '06MY. That was in 2009 and its been in daily use ever since. Now with a small underseat sub to add bass "presence".

Have a hi-line mutil-function display installed at the same time if yours is half-height.

Doesn't add much value to a six-year old car except saleability over one of same manufacturing year without. But if yours is a keeper then the earlier you do it, the more you'll enjoy!
