Engine oil capacity - 1.9tdi DPF or not?

I have a 2008 1.9tdi se estate. The engine oil capacity is either 3.8 litre (non DPF) or 4.3 litre (with DPF).
How can I tell whether mine has a DPF or not?
Also out of interest why is the capacity different - and if the DPF was originally fitted and then removed would this reduce the oil capacity requirement?

Is your car £30 to tax? Check the option codes in the spare wheel well on the sticker and put them into here - http://igorweb.org/equidec/

The car is £125 to tax - does this mean it is not DPF for definite - or do I still need to check the options codes?

My A3 1.9 has a DPF, it's 2009 and £30 to tax. The non-DPF model of the same year is £125.

Check the codes anyway, it probably doesn't have one but check via the codes.

One easy way to check if your car has a DPF is that if it has, then there will be a DPF warning light on the dash display. you can check in your car manual what this looks like.

What is your engine code ? i.e. BKD ,BLS ect. find it, post it, and we will tell you from there. My Golf was a 1.9TDI Match 2008/2009 and it had a DPF, engine code BLS and it was £125 to Tax.

My March 09 A3 1.9 BLS with DPF is £30? OP check your codes and report back.

Hi my 1.9TDI with DPF Jan 2009 had a DSG box and the emission's value was 137grms so it must have been tipped over the tax price band by the DSG Box. (bu** er)

Thanks for the help much appreciated. I did check for the warning light last night - and there is not one. The engine code is BXE and the emissions are 137g/km - it is a manual gearbox. I am pretty sure this is non DPF (happy days) but will check the options codes later as well.

On a separate note I will need to buy new discs and pads in the not too distant future - I looked at Pagid on Euro but there are 3 different sizes (280, 288 and 310mm) for the front and two for the rear - all listed for my reg. Is there a way to tell what is fitted to my car without taking the wheels off and looking?
