    Odd one.

My MMI 2G High has become basically inoperable as it has crawled to a halt.

Very slow to respond to commands (switching from radio to nav etc, adjusting aircon), adjusting volume, scrolling. This also affects the steering wheel controls. It kept dropping and reconnecting to my phone.

Annoyingly there are no faults showing, it only started this morning. Tried a reboot (Setup+MMI Knob+Upper Right inner key) and still the same.

Took the car to the shop this morning and the screen remained off for ~5 mins, flicked into life and remained on the MMI startup screen.

Still doing it this afternoon and got the wife to drive and I recorded this to show Audi incase it decides to play ball again.

Any ideas so I know what to prompt them with?

    Ta

have you had it scanned with VCDS to see if there are any faults in the system?

Battery has been off for 30 minutes, still the same. Pretty annoying as the MMI has been pretty faultless over the past 4 years!

Yep, no faults showing - you should know a scan is the first port of call on any modern car lol

FLOLOL... I didn't look at the poster I retract my question immediately

Something like that looks like a failing processor board, RAM or flash module for the system.... my bet is the flash drive is failing

No idea, I'm far from a technofobe! It seems pretty similar to RAM on a PC like you say, does MMI have RAM?

yes.. it will - essentially it is a small PC, it will have a processor, ram, GPU and flash for storage - is the fan running as overheating would also cause this as the unit get hotter - but I would have thought that it would shutdown or error if this is the case

Do you have a USB/HD connected - remove this and restart and see what happens

Nope, I don't have AMI in the A6. It originally started slowing down on the map screen and it made me think the DVD was at fault but soon realized it was everything else too.

The car has been off now for 2 hours so plenty of time for things to cool and its still slow. I'm not sure if there is a fan, will go and have a look in the usual places now.

things like this are usually related to overheating - especially if it get's slower the longer it is running - can be a loose heatsink but I am guessing there is not much that is repairable on this system so it may need to be replaced if there is nothing obvious

J523 is the master unit for MMI , ref MMI high flow diagram in SSP326 Audi A6 2005 Electrical System.

Page 17 of SSP293 Audi A8 '03 - Infotainment have more info as well on J523.

My opinion would be either this is misbehaving or another module to cause whole MMI to slow down but more of my opinion would lean towards J523.

There must be a way to see data transfer along MOST loop? perhaps that would pin point fault ...

    J523 not have a fan ...

Would isolating modules off MOST loop via bridges show what at fault?

AS MMI control head (J523) can't be bridged off as then no MMI if still MMI slow then it has fault?
