A6 C6 3.0 TDI quattro fuel filter change

Hi guys.

So i bought this new audi A6 C6 2006 3.0 TDI Quattro. So i decided to give it a snack (as i do to every new car i get). So i changed oil filter, oil, saloon filter, air filter, and then had to change the fuel filter.

So i took old one out, put new one in (i am used to quite older audis).

I did not fill new one with fuel.

So i started engine and it kept going on starter... for like 10 seconds. Then i got "low oil pressure" (the engine was still turning on starter). So i shut it down. Waited 10 seconds and tried again (i thought i will pump diesel in this way). This time i kept accelerator down, but after 4 seconds i got low oil pressure again and turned car off.

After some googling i found out that i should have filled it with fuel first... Also i found out that with VAG i can fill it up (but i have no VAG). So i googled more. In german site (Audiwiki or something like that) i found out that i actually CAN spinn engine to pump it up. In another forum i found a guy who said that i can damage stuff this way.

So mi question is this: can i really damage anything this way? Did i already damage anything? WHy does the oil warning come up? Does it say that its too low pressure for a working engine or does it say that it is getting damaged this way?

i allways suck up fuel into the filter using a vac pump but it should crank up in the end
if you run the fuel system dry for too long it can cause damage
the oil light comes on as a warning due to engine not starting as the revs of the engine are too low for ecu to colerate info

Have you tried a bit of easy start down the air intake?? It will run on the easy start and eventually drag some fuel through. Don't use too much at once as you can hydraulic the engine

I have never ever tried any of these sprays

So i did something like pump today. I took a thin hose (transparent) and connected it to exit of filter. Then i kept sucking til' i saw diesel in my hose. Then i connected all stuff up and tried starting engine. It spinned on starter for about 8 seconds with no luck, but when i tried again it did start and everything was okay.

Since i changed oil and oil filter too, plus i added some oil additives, i noticed that my engine works, well differently (different sound than always). I checked oil and it was slightly over MAX. Now i am wondering. Should i drain down my oil or can i rive like this. The engine has approx. 200ml over MAX.

P.S. Cabin filter was like 10mins job, though i saw people talking that its hard job. Pheh.

I remember when I ran out of fuel (saddle tank cable fault) and had to be refuelled by the RAC it took a significant amount of cranking before the car started, in fact it flattened the battery! Would imagine somewhat similar with starting without filling the fuel filter first

Agree about pollen filter, took 14 mins including cleaning out the holder with anti-bac spray and a microfibre (tied to a kitchen spatula) all of my fluids changed now including tranny with new filter & power steering, as bought car with no service history thought it a worthwhile precaution.

If overfilled surely an easy job to siphon a little out via the dipstick (but admit to having a pump to do this).
