Hi all, my first post here so be gentle!

Just got VCDS to find issue with check engine light that came on (when I wasn't driving!)

Got VCDS today and it shows two faults:

    16619 - Boost Pressure
    P0235 - 001 - Regulation Range not Reached - MIL ON
    Freeze Frame:
    RPM: 2478 /min
    Torque: 304.2 Nm
    Speed: 110.9 km/h
    Absolute Pres.: 2172.6 mbar
    Absolute Pres.: 1122.0 mbar
    Mass Air / Rev.: 552.3 mg/str
    Temperature: 20.7°C
    Duty Cycle: 15.8 %

19804 - Control Circuit for Controller for Turbocharger 1 (J724)
    P3348 - 008 - Electrical Malfunction - Intermittent
    Freeze Frame:
    RPM: 0 /min
    Torque: 167.7 Nm
    Speed: 0.0 km/h
    Duty Cycle: 1.0 %
    Voltage: 11.78 V
    Bin. Bits: 00101111
    Absolute Pres.: 999.6 mbar
    Absolute Pres.: 979.2 mbar

    Readiness: 1 1 0 0 0

I know one of the solutions is to replace the controller but I'm being told this is not available separately. Would it be much cheaper to do this if possible or a false economy if turbo is on the way out?

I would think you are getting boost pressure fault due to fault on the turbo actuator (J724) , the turbo is made by Borgwarner, the actuator can be by VDO / Siemens or other ...

This member has replaced his :-

Perhaps once you have more than 10 posts contact him via PM for share of info , I also have other procedure on replacement of the actuator ...

In another post you state your car is a 54 plate? if so like my 55 plate officially no replacement motor but I have info for VIN higher than WAUZZ4F(x)6(x)016 000 vehicles ...

    Turbocharger P/N
    059 198 201 A Servomotor for turbocharger (4 Pin) 059 145 715 E
    059 145 715 F
    059 198 201 Servomotor for turbocharger (5 Pin) 059 145 715 T
    059 145 721 E
    059 145 721 F

If I was in your shoes I'd first check if turbo sticking, which could lead to motor fault. Next I'd remove the arm between motor and turbo and run output test in module 1 via VCDS to check motor function. Then on result of those would decide next step ...

I'm just an owner so my advise is provided via reading info and have no experience with you specific fault ...

Few days ago viewing a site I found this, it is relating to dealer VAS machine. I checked on my BMK engine and this basic setting in module 01 is available via VCDS, I never did it though ...

    033 Basic setting: Turbocharger
    1) Coolant temperature at least 80 °C
    2) Switch off ignition briefly, then start engine
    3) Start basic setting
    4) Follow driver instructions
    (pedals must be pressed)
    5) Wait for the engine speed rise to approx. 1000 rpm

    KNote:
The turbocharger is now activated at intervals at different
    duty cycles.
    Specifications at "closed":
    Engine speed: approx. 1000 rpm
    Activation: closed
    Actual charge pressure: 970 ... 1150 mbar
    Charge pressure adjuster feedback: 98 ... 100 %
    Specifications at "open":
    Engine speed: approx. 1000 rpm
    Activation: open
    Actual charge pressure: 910 ... 1050 mbar
    Charge pressure adjuster feedback: 0 ... 2 %
Charge pressure difference between "closed/open": 50 ... 135 mbar OK is OK

So open VCDS, access module 01, select basic settings, enter 033 then ON/OFF/NEXT button to initiate.

I did not test this yet.
