Hi All, my first post here and am just about to get a short piece of rope out!!! Problem is as above, I have cams out, did not lock crankshaft ( was doing leakdown test) now need to lock crank to replace cams. I need to get No1 at TDC or near to use locking pin. No1 glowplug has broken!!! and don't really want to take out injector. As i understand it, the crank moves two pistons to TDC at the same time, if so, which other piston is at TDC at the same time as No1? as i have all other glowplugs out, i can check them easily. Also please try and insult my inteligence/knowledge abd dum it down for me, always better to over explain i think. Also, I live in Manchester, so if there is anyone local that could give me pointers in putting it back together!!!! Thanks in advance Dave

    a v6 i presume ? must be i suppose or you wouldn't refer to cams ?
if so, then a chap on here, adams24, is a bit of a v6 guru and would probably be able to provide the best advice.

Engine code required. It is on the ID LAbel in the spare wheel bay. No4 piston will be at TDC with No1. Have you not got a manual. Regards Peter

Ignore the Number 4 that was for a four pot engine. Regards Peter

There is a TDC drilling in the crankshaft directly behind the sealing plug (it is possible to feel the hole).
    WARNING
To avoid any risk of injury, do not rotate the crankshaft while feeling for the TDC hole with your finger.

Exactly, the TDC drilling is on the engines left side ( cars left ) and piston no 3 ( cars right side, rear ) will be on top if you get this right, and as Peter said, putting a finger in the hole and then rotate the crank, is a really bad idea

Yes, I have the fixing pin in, and the engine still turns, until it comes to a stop, i presume against crank piece that piston rod attaches to. I again presume that when it does lock correctly, it is in a hole/slot in this. No way i want to take any chances tho!
