Could anyone confirm whether a set of 17" TT Mk2 wheels will fit an A6 C6 3.0tdi Le Mans?

The ones in question are 17x8J ET47 5x112 with 225/50 98Y tyres. I'm fairly sure they should be ok but the lack of XL rating on the tyres is making me unsure.

this crops up all the time.........there is no requirement to have XL on the tyre, the load rating is the number in red.

If i'm not mistaken you need a minimum of 96 so the load rating is fine.

    Hi c4a5er ,

I go by the sticker in the fuel filler/manuals these stickers differ due to what spec of car is from a discussion in a previous thread also I like to inflate tyre per manufacturer recommendations ...

A common car size 215/55/16 has a load capacity of 93 which reading of the chart equates to 650kg per wheel. Including the load of the vehicle anything extra including the passengers should not go over the 650kg or 1300kg (calculated for two tyres) over the axle distributed evenly. The same size 215/55/16 also comes in the XL version and this tyre has load rating of 97 which equates to 730kg, hence there is a clear advantage of 80kg per tyre. Generally speaking if you fit the correct size you should have the correct rated tyres but make sure as mentioned above you may need the XL and RF version read the load index rating as well before you make any purchase.
Above extract from & load rating table Link:- Tyre load index ratings explained and Tyre load index chart

I fired off an email to Pirelli to check and they came back in half an hour to say that if it was a 98Y then it would be XL and the tyre would be marked as such. Sure enough they were and I have them in my garage now. I'm going to get the alignmemt done before fitting though as the tyres on them are almost new.

Got the alignment done yesterday (well, partially...but that's another thread) and have the wheels on. I'm actually quite pleased with the look and dare I say it they suit the A6 Avant better than the TT. One point to mention for anyone else considering it; the existing wheel weights were too high profile to clear the brake calipers. Fortunately the garage I took it to have some low profile weights and a decent balancing machine. It has softened the ride, but not by quite as much as my winter Michelins. I expect this is down to the rubber rather than the half inch difference in rim widths between the two sets.

As you say Chris, "no problems".

!7" wheels may be a little close to the callipers.
