Just really wondering what sort of cost would be involved in lowering a car by say 20 or 30 mm? No concrete plans to do it yet, but as I need new tyres, I thought "why pay £400 for a set of new tyres when I could probably buy a used set of nice 19" alloys for about £450 & get tyres with 4-5mm on them too?" However if I got 19"wheels, I'd definitely want to lower the car too & that makes it a lot less cost effective. Would I need to buy new springs/suspension too? If so, I'd rather have the Sport suspension than S Line as I want a compromise between comfort & looks. However if I could lower it & keep my SE springs to save money, that'd be first choice.

Sorry for the convoluted post, so many questions & my ignorance on the subject.

Paul just have a look at Jims car for arch gap and ride height nukes till on his SE springs and 19s.

Looking on eBay you can get a set of Eibach 30mm springs for £233 or a set of 'cheaper' branded 30mm for £152.

you really need to get these fitted by a pro. Guaranteed the strut/hub bolts will be seized, even on a newish Audi.

When I had mine done, i changed to H&R springs (better than Eibach IMHO, looks nice on 40mm), new SPAX OEM shocks (be silly not to since everything is apart and my car had done 100k).

Including all labour & alignment, cost me £700.. Watched the garage struggle for a whole day and smiled that it was not me doing it. Mechanic said they used a whole bottle of gas freeing the bolts, which also had to be replaced!

I had mine done couple of weeks after i got it. its a TDie so it already had a 20mm factory drop then put a set of Koni 40mm on it, so its only 20mm lower than a stock TDie but 40mm lower than a standard SE. Springs cost £95, fitting was £245 but had get a new Hub and Bearing because of the ABS sensors being corroded and that was £200 fitted so total price of £540

Sits beautifully on the 19s especially over the rear!

Thanks guys, Looks like just tyres this time, but it's not as expensive as I thought, so I may start saving. I have a squeak from the rear wheeks/shocks/suspension going over bumps & rough surfaces, so something may need replacing soon anyway.
