I am about to retro fit a RNS-510 into my 2010 Mk6 Golf. I will be removing the installed RCD-510, but I need the code to be able to sell it on. How do I go about getting it?
I phoned the local VW dealers and was informed that if I can get there between 9am and 5pm they will get an engineer to plug it in and get the code for me free of charge. But I had to present the car with the radio in. Great, no problemo.

I slid off work, got down to garage in time, only to be told that they can only give me the code if the radio askes for it !!! I patiently explained that I was taking it out and selling it and replacing it with another unit. Again I was told that I can only have it when the radio asks for it :-/

Bit of a stalemate. I’m not sure I would buy a radio without the code. The garage said the new owner of the radio would have to put it in their car, and when the radio asks for it, take it to a VW Garage and they would request the code from VW. That has to be rubbish, but he said it with a straight face.

Does anyone have experience of this? What can be done?

if its factory fit it will be inside the radio manual (should be!).

or try another dealer, i shouldn't see any problem tbh.

or keep it until you sell the car on in the future, i have my audi radio sitting here as i fitted rnse to my a3 and will be putting it back in when the time comes to sell.

It is a factory fit, but no indication on any of the paperwork from new, or the service manual. Searched everywhere for it!

odd, its inside the front cover of my radio manual on a tiny little sticker, personally as i said above i would be keeping it and putting it back in when (if) you sell the car in the future.

Keeping it and putting it back in is an option I guess, but I wanted to sell it and justify the expense to the Mrs by getting some money back. There was no little sticker inside any of the books! Trying another dealer might work I guess?

Just tell her you would get more for the RNS if you ever change models/marques. Thats what I told mine and she was fine with it (I think!).

Try another dealer, some just like to be awkward.

Perfectly normal to not have any stickers with the code, VW don't supply them anymore. Used to back around 2006 but certainly since 2008 they've not been included.

Anyway if your dealer is been a pain in the **** then it can be obtained online relatively cheaply.

Can't have that link up there, sorry! As it could be used for getting codes for stolen units etc.
