The belt which drives the aircon also drives the alternator and power steering pump so not a good idea. I believe it is possible to fit a shorter belt that leaves the aircon out of the system. A replacement aircon pulley is about £80 but not sure if they come with the securing bolt (which I'm assuming you no longer have).

If you've got two belts then the comp should drive direct off the crankshaft pulley, just leave it to freewheel till you get the clutch sorted, check its not fell on the undertray.

Just check and if it runs from the crank to the comp only, its ok to remove it but you don't have to its ok to leave it.

Yes the air con belt just runs the air con pulley from the bottom pulley. Why do you want to take the belt off, leave it on, it causes no probs with running of the engine with the drive plate missing.

I got a new drive plate for mine, as it too had dropped off and wasn't lucky enough to have it resting on the undertray. Came from Germany, £100, bit expensive, but cheaper than a new compressor.

The clutch is internal, the plate that has fallen off is the drive plate which sits on the blue rubber to cushion the 'take up' when the compressor kicks in. It's the silly little 8mm bolt that holds the plate on that undoes itself thats the culprit.
