    Hi

I've just connected VAG-COM to my Passat and the following error codes have popped up.

    Can anyone help,

    16727 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Signal too High P0343 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

    18010. P1602. Power Supply (B+) Terminal 30 Low Voltage.

If think I can solve the first... it's the second (18010) I'd like information on. (looks expensive)

    Cheers

Usually means that the battery was disconnected at some time.

Thanks Lex, that's a load of my mind.

Is it very difficult for an average DIY mechanic to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor. Are there any special tools or equipment required.

    The sensor might be fine.

Any terminal 30 errors refer to the power supply to a component. I'd firstly check it is connected and that the wiring is all ok (pop the cam cover off and trace it back from the sensor)

As for replacing it if it is dud, I'm not sure if the cam sprocket has to come off to get at it. If it does, it isn't really a diy job unless you are fairly compentent as it would basically involve doing a cambelt change with the addition of getting the sprocket on and off.

you need to carry out a basic setting of the tensioner via vag com an all will be ok.01 04 basic setting channel 94,make sure the engine is at normal temp then increase idle to 1200 rpm and start the basic setting check zones 2 and 3 in 3 it will go from test off to test on then ok,or final control test the n205 and feel it click when it is selected.

Would that I could a8 tech but I only have the unregistered version "409" of Vag Com. I used this software to discover why I sometimes have a problem starting the car and why the engine warning light occasionally comes on.

When it fails to start I turn off the ignition, wait for about a minute turn the key again it usually starts. (this is when the engine warning light sometimes appears) Once started the car runs perfectly for weeks/months before the problem occurs again.

Is there any other way to test the sensor.

    Thanks guys

I've only just got my hands on VAG-COM so I'm not sure if both faults log at the same time.. but don't go away a8 tech I'll be checking on a daily basis. Directly I have the answer I'll get back to you. (is that possible or have I to wait until you spot my posting)
