OK so i've only had the golf 16 months and still love the car but starting to think about what next, I've had a test drive in the mk7 golf and the new seat Leon, must say i prefer the Leon, (i did test drive the fr tho) for the money you get a lot of kit,

    any comments?

I was reading the brochures and price lists for both this afternoon. Last time out, the Leon looked good value but on close inspection it was very plasticky inside. By the look of the brochure this has improved but maybe not all the way.

They have an offer on the SE at present (until 30th September) - you get the Tech pack for free - SatNav, DAB radio, LED headlights. Discounts available look better than the Golf as well.

I'm planning to test drive the 2.0 TDI of both in the next week or two, so I'm interested in what you preferred about the Leon, other than the up-market trim.

I've seen a few close up and sat in one. Not a fan - it's looks have been pared down a long way to the bland box it is now especially with the door handles being placed in a standard place - and it looks too much like the Ibiza. The trim is questionable and plastics feel and sound cheaper than a Mk1 and that's saying something (I had 2 and they felt pretty solid IMO).

    But that's my view.

Its a nice car. Looks great from the outside and seriously well equipped with the free technology pack. 1.4 TSI FR is the model to go for, and worth throwing another £450 at it to add the 18" alloys and Convenience Pack (Auto Dimming Mirror/ Auto Lights & Wipers).

Interior not quite up to Golf standards with some plastics lower down/ on the doors feeling a bit cheap but its certainly not bad.

i agree with the comments on quality, but off set that against the cost etc i think its giving the golf a good run for the money, i love the golf but feel the styling of the mk7 is far to 'safe' i know a golf is a golf , but feel that the Leon offers the same but different.
the trim is on par with the Mercedes A class if not better, the drive is very positive and feed back is responsive, the FR defiantly has the toys and obviously the engines are the same as vw, but apparently, according to reviews the Leon shares a lot more with the golf than just the chassis and engine this time.

i agree but, if the golf is so 'perfect' everyone would drive a golf...lol

i'm looking at the A3 soon, as the 'boss' also know as the wife, likes the Audi, but not sure the wallet agrees...lol

by the way dtd under cut the dealer by £120 pm and wwac cash deal for the golf was £1000 more
