    Hi all!

On the basis that people have been very helpful so far, I am making another call for help!

I have a tomtom sat nav, which I don't want to mount on the windscreen.

Does anyone out there have any experience of using the various methods of 'securing' such a thing to the dashboard? There are various options which purport to do the job (beanbags, mats etc) but all with mixed reviews and not car specific.

If anyone has any thoughts, I'd be very pleased to hear them ...... thanks in anticipation, once again!

When I had my Garmin before my RNSE I had it mounted in the bottom right of the windscreen tucked into the corner and ran the lead down the a pillar trim, in below the steering wheel and out at the 12v which made it a bit tidier looking.

I'm using this as my dashboard mount and found it sticks to my dash like a limpet. Been using it for about 2 years and it's fantastic value for about 20 quid. BRACKETRON NAV MAT II ULTRA THIN UNIVERSAL DASH MOUNT on eBay!

Thank you for this recommendation! I have done a bit of research and it certainly seems to be highly recommended by others too! Am I correct in think that you are using it in an a3? (Customer reviews often say: "be sure to check whether your dashboard is sufficiently flat").

I use a black plastic self-adhesive disc available from Halfords for a fiver for two. They've been brilliant...the TomTom sits there beautifully and its actually not in the line of sight of the road...sits just below the level of the bonnet..(i hope that makes sense!)

My sat-nav sits on the passenger seat dispensing such pearls of wisdom as, you're going too fast, that Garda is going to follow you, don't gesticulate at people etc. I'd love a better position for it but apparently the boot is out!

I use it on top of the dashboard above radio and have had no problems.

I have the official TomTom beanbag dashboard mount: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-9UUB-.../dp/B00261J1D8

I don't have the safety clip stuck to my dash (in case you have an accident), but I put it in the middle of the dash resting on the double air vents and I can usually route the charging cable so that it doesn't get in the way. It doesn't move at all.

The alternative Audi nav known as the Audi Mobile Navigation which is something like a tomtom style, has an install kit which affixes to the airvent by the A pillar, its a very good idea, completely secure & the kit actually wires into the cars systems properly & it would appear utilises the sound system.

We have 1 available to test atm, but by all accounts its not bad & can be detached & put in the pocket if need be, certainly stops using the screen suckers

For me at least, I prefer to have my satnav as close to the line of sight as possible, without being an obstruction to my view of the road and also I don't want to move my eyes away from the road ahead. The vent fixing for me would be too distracting from what's going on on the road ahead. With the dashmount I reckon I have the best possible solution.
