Like most of the newcomers and probably quite a few of the regulars that come to this forum I didn't buy my Audi new but rather as a 2nd hand car and I don't have the original paperwork to know what was fitted to it when it left the factory. Some things (the fact it's an Avant with a manual gearbox for example) are blindingly obvious and a lot of the others can be determined with a little poking around the car but I noticed that some of them are not mentioned on the options label in the spare wheel well. For example, I have nets on the back of the front seats and a storage drawer under each of them together with a net in the passenger footwell. According to the brochure this is the storage pack but it's not mentioned on the options label. Likewise, I have the electrically operated tailgate but that's not mentioned either. As I like to know exactly what I have I telephoned Audi to see if they have a record of the car and although they say that they can provide me with the info I need to call an 0904 number - apparently this can cost up to £1.50/minute so I don't want to do that unless there is no other choice.

    • I don't believe the VIN is of help, I've been on VIN decoder sites and although they provide some information it's more about engine/gearbox/factory etc.
    • The options label has a lot of the information but doesn't appear to have all of it - I used http://prsearch.planetvag.com/ which decoded all of the kit from the options label but not that I can physically see!

Is my only options to phone Audi? I'd hate to have functionality/extras that I don't know about and when I come to sell it in a few year's time I want to be able to give the buyer a full breakdown

Put your vin into this # VAG Cars Explorer - VIN Search Tool - VW * Audi * Seat * Skoda - Sponsored by TOPWAGEN.COM but it will cost you €2/3 but that's not a lot.

It will give you all the information you ever wanted about your car

Done it for my A6 and A3 with no problems.

Audi customer service could tell you more - 0800 699 888

Have you tried putting the 09 number into the SAYNOTO0870.COM - Non-Geographical Alternative Telephone Numbers website to see if it gives you an 01 equivalent?

Edit: Ah - should have read Chris' s answer first.

Chris: Paid my 2 euros but must have done something wrong - I have the PayPal receipt which shows the VIN has been paid for but it still tells me I need to pay, will investigate further in case it's my PC settings
Brycie: I'm pretty sure that 09 numbers aren't covered by SayNoto0870, certianly when I googled the cost of an 09 number there were a number of forum threads (Not here, general forum threads) that came up suggesting the same thing although maybe I should have checked 1st!

    Thanks for the replies though

You have to wait 24/48 hours then put the VIN in again

Audi customer care did give me some good info ... but no way as comprehensive as the VIN decoder site ...

Inkblot after 24/48 hrs have elapsed on the french VIN site there will be a downloadable txt file ... download that and copy the whole string of PR codes into here ... Link:- http://igorweb.org/equidec/

Separate the string of text every 3 digits with a semi colon between them in igorweb decoder to get a full English translation ...

Will upload a video of me doing A6_Chris PR codes this afternoon to make it clear ...

When they have decoded your Vin, press the text file below Télécharger le fichier V.I.N : and copy everything after the Model Year (7th group over) and it will be a long string like this -

    0F3;0G7;0HP0JK0LL0M50N50TD0VF0W20YH1BV1C11D01EX1KW1N31PD1S 11SA1T21VH1X11Z51ZL2C52D02FQ2G02K72KR2WA2Z13B43F43 FA3G13GA3L33M33NZ3S03X03Y04A34D04E04GP4H54K24KC4L2 4R44UF4W04X34Y04ZB5A55C05D75J25K55NC5P05SJ5TG5XC6E 36FA6M06NQ6SS6TS6U06V16W66XD7A27AL7B07F97GN7K07M87 P17Q27QT7X17Y08BF8GV8K78Q18SA8T18TF8X18YQ8Z59AQ9LA 9M09P39Q49VD9ZWA00A51A8SAQ0B09B0NC17C8KD1DE4JF0AFA 0FC1FM0FQ1G0RGZ0H6QJ0ZK8BL0RN1HNT1NY0PNCPQDPQFQ1DQ E0QF0QH0QQ1QV0T41U1BV0AVC0VX0VY0WB7WIGWQTYPA;;0;;;

At every 3rd character, put a ; (see above) and so on.

Put the string into http://igorweb.org/equidec/ and copy the results into Google Translate and bingo.

Thanks Gup, Chris, I'll do that after work tomorrow and if it's not ready by that time after work on Tuesday

It's things like spotting that the windows appear to be 2 pieces of glass and wondering if that is standard or it means the car has the twin-pane heat and UV insulating glass option - means nothing in practical terms but my inner geek wants to know everything!
