    Hey all,

    update on my A6 Avant

only had my car a month now and from day one. It's been nothing but trouble! My main concern is my adaptive air suspension. The garage I bought the car from insisted everything was okay. Perfectly normal but I needed to take my car to Bham Audi to get them to confirm something was wrong with my suspension.

If you looked at the car on level ground from the drivers side. Side view you would notice that the front wheel was much lower than the opposite side by maybe 8mm. Audi said they needed to calibrate the suspension and check the 4 wheel alignment. The garage I purchased it from agreed to pay for this! Has it would put to rest once and for all if there was a problem. So booked my car in Audi did there checks and indeed re calibrated the suspension and corrected the 4 wheel alignment. Indeed the suspension was all out and Audi and invoiced the garage to pay for the work. Anyway on the way home I noticed that the car was under steering quite bad! So I emailed Audi the next day with my concerns. And I ended up taking my car back in for a test drive. After test driving my car again apparently! They discovered that my from near side shock absorber has failed.

All Audi where concerned with was who would be paying for this repair. I was under the impression that I took my car to Audi because I had a problem with my suspension! In my eyes it's pointless doing all the checks if you have a failing shock absorber. Not in Bham Audi eyes. The car was fine when it left there. And the shock absorber must of simply failed on my way home. Getting Bham Audi to hold up there hands and say its possible we missed this. And we will charge only for the new shock absorber and air bag + labour for fitting. But we will not charge for the setting up of the suspension or the wheel alignment has its our fault it needs doing again

oh know, Bham Audi ignores all the facts and insists that they will charge again. They did nothing wrong. I find this shocking one of the biggest Audi dealers in the midlands can't admit they can't get things wrong. They would rather pass the buck and blame someone else

had a phone call from the service manager today! Who insisted the shock absorber was fine because they looked at it on the ramps. At over £100 per hr to just look at it. Apparently 3 people looked at it at the same time just to make sure they could justify the premium they charge. Funny how it took me to tell them something was still wrong! And I did this by simply driving the car! I wonder if this approach might catch on

My personall experience of Audi full stop they make lovely car! And the front of the dealers is very nice. But are they worth the extra money! Most definitely not. Give me a independent Audi specialist any day of the week. Least you get to speak to the person who is dealing with your car! And communication is high priority. Everything with Audi is second hand info

also would anyone recommend having just one shock absorber changed. Or is this bad practise? If you ask me adding a new component into the fold will just put more pressure on the older one and in time that will just fail. Audi said its fine tho. So it must be true.

No wonder dealers get nicknames! All try are interested in is taking your money. It's safe to say I won't be taking my car back to Bham Audi anytime in the near future.

Personally I'd have the shocks supplied and fitted elsewhere, alignment too

No harm in just having one done but if the others original a fresh pair (IMO)

You'll probs find that it will be cheaper than Audi will charge you for one shock

personally i wouldn't go through all that rubbish. i would take said car to supplying dealer, tell them its broke, ask them to call you when its fixed, which car shall i drive off in, oh, warranty, sales of goods etc..... when its fixed, inspect it, if you are not happy, reject it. why are you having to take it to vw ?

Mark apparently you need specialist tools that only Audi have to change these specific parts. Kind of makes it harder so by the sounds of it stuck with Audi.

Zollaf. That sounds good on paper! I'd love nothing more than giving the car back. I think the garage would enjoy this. Has it would give them a chance to get everything done on the cheap. They changed the lower suspension arms just before I got the car. These where no genuine parts. And it could be the reason the suspension was all over the place in the first place. Someone attempting the job. But not really have a clue what they were doing. Bit like Audi really

^^^Specialist tools to change a shock absorber...mind boggled?

I thought they were made by Bilstein or Koni and used in other marques?

Mark I'll copy and paste the email I got sent below

Sorry but we don't get involved with the air ride system as you need a couple of Audi only tools to fit them so it's not something we can do here.

maybe I should try another garage?

It's unusual for the Listers group to not resolve a complaint - I've invited them to offer comment and will update accordingly.

I'm not sure why you've disliked my post.

Every time (that I'm aware of) a member has reason to complain about a dealership or garage, be they main or indy - I offer the garage concerned the opportunity to comment. It's helped resolve a couple of issues and (usually) the member concerned is left more than happy.

Given the fact that you're accusing the dealership concerned of theft, I think it's only fair they have the chance to present their version of events.

As stated, if I receive a response from Birmingham (Listers) Audi, I will update accordingly.
