Hi folks. The tailgate on my touran has just starting opening spontaneously and then locking itself - you can hear it clicking on and off repeatedly. Sometimes it takes ages to open as it does not respond to the remote or the open switch within the car, and you have to wait until it decides to unlock itself. To keep it from opening whilst driving along I have to slam it, lock all doors then open just the drivers door. Any ideas whats causing this?

i would say you got a faulty switch/contact somewhere , , maybe up in the handle location ,

If its the same as my sharan , as soon as you pull the handle a switch/contact makes, and the motor goes into action which opens the tail gate itself ,

the faulty part could be making/breaking contact over bumps etc also ,,,

you need a manual , to check the circuit there buddy

thanks. I ran a diagnostic test and it came up with 'rear lid handle unlock switch - E234- short circuit to ground' guess that could be wiring, solonoid or replacement of the whole switch? guess it'll have to go in to vw anyway...

    hi susie,

    cool you have vagcom !!!

Before you go in to VW check this 1st

open tail gate , look up to hinge area , and you should see the rubber hoses that hold the wires to the tail gate ,

Pull back the rubber and check the wires in there , mine were just about to break in 2 ,

yours could be touching the earth cable that also runs through there,

    good luck !!!!

Hi, yes it turned out to be the microswitch in the bootlid unit. unfortunately you have to buy the whole unit, but its easy to fix yourself, just be really careful when removing and putting back the interior casing as it sticks in the centre.
    cheers.

Mine has just started to not open the rear tailgate then an hour or so later it is half unlocked and is not open or closed, the other doors are not effected, does this sound like the same probmem you all had that was cured with a new micro switch-

I've just got mine back from our local garage who assures me the fault id down to the £37 handle unit (currently on order from VW). I'm due to have this fitted this week, so I'll let you kn ow if it cures the problem.

thanks, i have just stripped the tailgate and the mcro switch is working sine whemn I put a electrical meter across it makes and brakes the circuit 100% (unless it is failing under load)
I have then pulled out the lock mechanism and this too triggers unlocking 100% of the time when i put 12V to pins 3 & 4.
I then put it all back together and the **""££ thing does not work, I guess that there is something in the central locking that is not ok, and I do not know where to look for that yet.
because I do not get 12V to the conectors feeding pins 3&4 when the tailgate release handle is pulled.. next weekend I will pull out the microswitch again and try to trigger a bulb with it on/off to see if it is the fault. (bungee holding the door closed for a few days now and not happy in the rain)

I pulled all the connectore apart at the top rubber hose, no problems evident, following the strip of the microswitch and lock solinoide (no prob found) and now it works 100% perhaps it is a bad earth that has made with the disturbance. (it will be back to bad when all the trim is put back on I bet) I will have mine hooked up to a VAGCOM soon and see what is the problem and post back. (you got a CBR then?) 1100 guzzi myself

    00950 : tailgate V53 unlock : SHORT TO EARTH : SPORADIC.

The problem is solved:the plastic housing was cut away behind the micro switch and a 5W bulb was loaded with 12V and switched with 100% instant steady lighting.
Then the back of the conector was cut away and the bulb was conected and the bulb was also 100% when switched by the microswitch ?So you would expect that the unit was ok?
leave the switch pressed in and the bulb flickers a bit every so oftern.

a pair of wires run from the back of the microswitch to the back of the pin 3 pin 4 on the connector the internal strip in the plastic was dremmeled through and the whole thing sealed with a glue gun and so far the lock works ok all the time so the internal strip cast in plastic was the problem.
