An oddity. Was driving home from London City to Aylesbury, used the sat nav cos it gives ETA and re-routes if traffic bad. Tooling up the M11 about half an hour into the journey, looked at the display and noticed it was all there - position arrow, compass, distance to go, and "zoom" range etc. BUT no road detail. The DIS was all present and correct as were the voice commands. So, everything ok except the actula map. Twiddled the "zoom" know, and when I got out to 2 miles the detail came back. Hmm thought I. A little further into the journey I had to zoon out to 8 miles to get map details. very odd thought I. After I got home, turned off, turned on, still no map detail. Left it off for half an hout - hey presto, back again.

I'm guessing it's a DVD fault/glitch (original 2006 version), as everyhting else was fine and the actual navigation was still working perfectly.

Guess I'll upgrade to the most recent DVD and hope for the best!

    I have something similar......

Almost everytime I drive to within a few miles of Taunton either North or South my Nav system says check DVD and I have no map, nor do I have any data on the DIS other than the arrow, but the driving instructions still work.

A few miles later the Nav comes back to life and the data re-appears on the DIS.

On scanning with VCDS I get

So I believe it is a dead bit of the DVD, I have had it somewhere else when driving but can't remember where!

I do use a backup copy of my genuine Nav DVD as I've had bitter experience of very expensive media failing! So to fix I think I need to make a new copy!

    Cheers,

The medium is your disc. Check it for scrapes etc and consider getting a new one.

A DVD lens cleaner wouldn't do any harm either.

Thanks Andy - although mine is somewhat different in that the display was still there - but only at smaller magnification - and it stayed off all the way home (except for an 8mile view as I mentioned) but today is back to normal. I've used it to/from work and will continue to do so to see if it's stable. I'll also give the DVD a polish :-) but ultimately a new one was on my list anyway!

The grey matter cells are remembering something..........

You might want to run an optical scan with VCDS to check all is okay with the MOST fibre optic ring. I can remember my Sat Nav playing up before the Bluetooth module died

I don't think it's that - I'd have lost all information if the MOST ring was down. I did still have the map info available - juts not at the closer scales. Could be media, could be the read head in the DVD. Time will tell (and a scan if I get one done :-) )
