    Golf mk4 gt tdi 1.9 asz 2003.

Had a problem with the old girl today and carried out a auto scan with the following DTCs.

    Address 01 engine
    1 fault found
16075-Engine speed sensor (G28): implausible signal
    P0321-35-00- -
    Rediness: N/A

Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels Redir Fail!
    Controller 1CO 907 379 M
    Component: ESP FRONT MK60 0102
    Coding 0019970
    Shop #. WSC 01266
    VCID. 341B6A961735
    1Fault found
    01314-Engine Control Module
    013- Check DTC Memory Module-Intermittent

These are the only faults logged.

For the past couple of weeks ive noticed a reduction in performance, both in terms of fuel economy and in particular when the car is positioned faceing uphill and as I start to move off, the revs seem to die and I have to give it more accellerator to build the revs back up.

I have also noticed that it has started to take longer to start first thing in the morning.

What I would like to know is where is the engine speed sensor located on this model, and what would the likely replacement cost would be.

    Many Thanks

Well, After buying a copy of elsa-win on ebay, found the engine speed sensor. Found out that it is the Generic name. Also Known as the Crankshaft Position sensor or Crankshaft Pulse Sensor.

On the ASZ engine, It is located Below and just to the Right of the Oil filter/cooler (as viewed from the front of the engine).

Bit of a begger to get to without an angled socket drive and not a standard socket head, looks like a star head, luckily for me I had bought a decent pro socket set a few weeks earlier.

Bought the sensor from TPS £ 34.00. Took about Half an hour to remove and fit new.

Re-set DTC and it started instantly, no hesitation and runs a lot more smoothly.
