    Want some advice on this.......

I have two vibrations, first one is from slow speed on full lock, almost feels like tyres are scrubbing. Car has 255/40/17 but various threads report this is normal for the AWD system and nothing to worry about......................is it?

Second, i seem to get a vibration on motorway, around 70-80, have had wheels balanced, all seem fine. Am considering having front and rear along with centre diff oils changed, along with Auto box fluid change as no record of that ever being done after 122k

Is there anything else one should be looking for or if there is a 'common issue' that can be checked. Planning on going to France in 6 weeks so would like to get it all tip top before we go.

    regards
    Stuart

all quattros make a vibration type feel/noise on full lock manouvering
the other vibration could be anything from centre prop bearing to driveshaft/gearbox you will have to get it checked to confirm

thought the low speed noise was normal given it has AWD, however wanted to check. Will get the car into local garage and get them to check over. Think it will be wise to get fluids changed regardless.

Every time I've had vibration at 70mph-ish, it's turned out to be wheel balance or tyre problems.

Can you borrow a known-good set of wheels to eliminate that posibility?

alas, no to borrowing wheels. But i am going to get the car to Elite in Essex who have always been able to sort out vibration issues. Likely chance is that it's due to tyres, (previous owner put GT Champiro's on due to his low mileage) and may have a flat spot as only done 4k a year, but have read these can be a real sod to balance correctly.

that is a very generous offer, thank you! Hopefully it won't come to that, but if I may well take you up on that if we can't get these ones sorted, be worth it even to just eliminate them from the list of possibilities!
    once again, thank you,

Right, wheels all balanced up to zero. Was a very slight run out on one rear alloy that they did get to balance up. Car drove fine for 30 miles.
Vibration now returned but......its not always there. Any suggestions on common places to start. Searching google seems to trow up numerous threads about vibrations.

Check the complete driveline for universal joints with any play. They're likely to be a source of vibration if there is any wear. Sometimes they will vibrate whilst driving even when the amount of wear is not noticable to the casual "pull n twist", so you're in a difficult situation.

I've had situations in the past where an engine or geabox mount had collapsed and the centre prop shaft joint was vibrating because it was working beyond it's safe angular range...

They do get a hard life with all that V8 torque going through them....

The 5HP19FL transmission have a weak spot in the right side output flange. It's a needlebearing that will wear and make vibrations that come and go.
I am not to familiar to your transmission, as I guess it's a 5HP24FLA, but it,s maybe a good idea to check the right side inner joint/ output flange for slack.
