I have been checking out the various timing belt kits... In particular Dayco, Gates and Conti, the belts as I understand it are all good quality and I believe that Dayco manufacture the VW OE.

From what I've read (if you can trust the Internet) they all have litens tensioners and idlers (forgotten the brand) which are also OE. I can get the Dayco kit for £100.

can anyone confirm any of the comments above? As for the water pump anyone got experience of kolbenschmidt ?

Thanks in advance for any help....

I went with the Blauparts kit, and a Geba metal impeller water pump
But did do the Tip box ATF and filter change at the same time

Where did you source your Blaupart kit, not keen on ordering from the States as I've been hammered on import duties in the past

Blauparts directly, sent via USPS, collected from ParcelFarce local office about four miles away from me. Had to pay VAT and a handling fee. No import duty. For both the 09G Tip box kit (inc 6L ATF) and the 2.0L tFSI timing belt kit, plus VAG-trained indy install of both saved £88 as against dealer prices even with "special offers". Dunno whether they do timing belt kit for TDI though

Worth checking the brand names of waterpumps, was chasing metal impeller anyways, all the aftermarket ones I'd seen were only a few quid cheaper than VW's OEM (plastic impeller too) after rebate return of used one. The aftermarket ones I saw were chinese clones, all in impressive official looking boxes with impressive EU-sounding names. Couldn't see from Blauparts' site at the time what brand water pump they offered so passed on buying it from there with the rest

More on the Tip box at: Auto-trans fluid change at 40k

Got a more detailed costs' analysis if you need, but for the tFSI BWA engine...

Im still interested if anyone has experience of Dayco, Gates or Conti kits, I'm trying to keep the cost down, I'll be fitting it myself and while I'm fairly happy these are all good quality belts it would be good to hear from someone who has fitted one of them and confirm that the idlers and tensioner are know brands..... Ina, littens ?

Have used both Dayco and Conti in the past. Both good quality kits - one of which had Ina rollers but for the life of me can't remember which..... Next time I shall fit Conti as it seemed a fraction nicer.

Have all ways gone genuine with the pump - gives the opportunity for a decent row with the dealer if it goes pop in the first two years
