Hi,ive just bought a touran 2.0 tdi today.drove it back from Coventry to Leicester with no problems except gears were sometimes a little stiff to get in(thought I must need to adjust to the car) but when I got home and left it for a while before getting back in,the car wouldn't select a gear, when I tried to get it in gear it would slightly move a nudge forward but wouldn't select a gear,so I turned the engine off and found out it went into everygear with no probs,so im guessing that the clutch isn't engaging properly? when I pull off as soon as I lift the clutch off it moves straight the way, could I need to drain the hydraulic fluid and fill it up again or is the gearbox knackered?

I know this sounds really obvious so you've probably already checked it but the floor mat hasn't gone up behind the clutch pedal, therefore stopping you depressing it all the way, has it?

no,definately not the floor mat yes I did buy it as a trade but I thought if it could possibly need a fluid change or something simple I could easily fix it myself as If I have to take it back,it means I will have no car to get about in and im going away at the end of the month

it sounds like the clutch does need bleeding and has lost some fluid. thing is, why ? probably a broken slave cylinder which would mean taking the box out if its a concentric slave, which isn't cheap. yes you could temporarily fix it but then when it goes big time the trader could then argue that you broke it trying to fix it. your car, your money, your decision, but just take it back and make other arrangements.

    Hi

I have just registered here to pass you my info - which you may not like..

I have owned a 1.9TDI model since 2005 (Still have it but only until Sept). Until two weeks ago I would have recommended the car to anyone.

However, at 80mph on a motorway - I though I hit something such was the violence of the breaking part (gearbox). Scared me to death and only lucky to (a) be in the nearside lane and (b) near an exit to get off the motorway.
In short summary - there are parts inside the gearbox which shear off and pop out of the casing - making a hole - quickly followed by the gearbox oil. Total cost of repair (in this area) was £1600.

If you Google "Touran Gearbox" - it pops up all over and the stories match mine. More annoying - it has happened on newer cars and the owners are treated like dirt. Have found some tales of successful private prosecutions against VW on this exact fault.

So my message is - even if the dealer "fixes" yor current problem - as A6_Chris says - take it back but dont take it away again.

Sorry to bear the news - but my story occurred very recently - as did yours. Typically - like me - you only find out when you own one :-(
    Regards
    David

Sorry this is an old thread but I've just Googled for Touran gearbox problems and there are a few shown. A user on another VW forum said his 06 Touran 1.9TDI GQN gearbox has packed up with a hole in the gearbox for a second time. That GQN 6 speed is only fitted to the 06/03-05/06 Touran.
