I'm getting about 520 miles from mine. 2.0 Tdi Multitronic.

Mixture of town and A roads with some duel carriageway (No motorways in Norfolk)

I average 500 miles or so a week.

On my 2.0 tdi s line 140bhp, a full tank (to the top) got me 870 miles on highways in Europe. 5 ppl + luggage on 225's, winter time.
Used 6th gear, cruising at 75-80mph.

    Hi there,
I've seen more than a few threads on this and replied to many.

The Top Gear one you mention was an A8 iirc....see here....

A6 2.0 TDI Mileage - Glasgow to London AND back

The most I've had to date was 750 miles from one tank.

Using quite precise calculations ( a combination of brimming method, DIS figures and also Fuelly figures ) I believe I can be quite certain of my findings.

Having run the tank down to the DIS showing ZERO miles till empty whilst showing approx 44 mpg achieved I filled up to the TOP with 70.9 litres approx.....this means around 9.1 litres or around 2 gallons.
Having travelled in excess of 700 + miles then adding the reserve ( when known ) gave me a total range of around 800+ miles

I have a picture posted here some time ago after filling up showing my DIS telling me I could travel 915 miles if I drove the same way / same route as I had prior to filling up. It can be done, but it does mean careful driving and mostly motorway.

Bear in mind that when the DIS shows ZERO Miles to go / EMPTY and depending on your driving style / current mog etc you could have around 10 litres in reserve which could be anywhere from 80 - 140 miles or so depending on the variables, but......

We NEVER EVER get to that point as we're conditioned to fill up in good time so as not to run out of fuel obviously

Just to add to Chris's observation... some may have a bigger tank as an optional extra, denoted by 0M5 on the PR code info on car data sticker in spare wheel well/service book...

    From pre-facelift brochure...

    Attachment 20033
    From post-facelift brochure...

    Attachment 20034

Parts catalogue has this as remark...

As a rule, only 80 l tanks are offered as spare. If 70 l was previously installed, adjust gauge in dash insert.

    It couldn't have been a 2.0TDI because it was a V8 engine.

Jeremy Clarkson on playing fuel light bingo - BBC Top Gear

This, in fact, was a test of the Audi A8 diesel which will be shown on the first episode of the new series. We all marvelled at the sheer performance of its four-litre twin turbo V8; I mean, 0 to 60mph in 6.6 seconds – that’s good for any big car. But for a big diesel car, it’s truly astonishing. Surely, though, all those force-fed cubic inches will erase the point of having a diesel in the first place – fuel consumption, and therefore the distance you can go between visits to the pumps.
