Vehicle is brand new Audi Q5 with Tech Pack.

I have copied albums from Windows Media player (WMP) onto an SD card and uploaded it to the Jukebox of the MMI system. I copied each album individually so it was a selection of tracks in it's own folder.

When the albums were ripped in WMP they were generally ripped in WMA format although some are MP3 imports. Whatever WMP has found the album art for each album and it displays this in WMP it also displays the art fine in Windows File Manager as an icon associated with each folder

All the uploaded albums are in the Jukebox but no album art. They all play fine, I can read the album, track and artist info without a problem on the MMI but what have I done wrong to lose the album art and how do I fix it?

I have MP3 tagging software and file format conversion software and I realise that I could experiment until I fix this but if somebody knows what to to that would be helpful?

    Thanks

If the album artwork is embedded in the file, then the jukebox will correctly show it. I can confirm it does work on MP3 files (on new 2013 RS4). I use iTunes to organize music, but this also shows where there is missing artwork for some of the files. I suspect your problem is Windows Media Player not correctly embedding the artwork.

I've done some investigation on this so hopefully this post will be useful to all members.

The problem is related to tags (nothing to to with embedding the artwork in the music file as far as I can tell.)

As most people know .MP3 and .WMA files can be meta tagged. That is to say thay can carry little bits of data with them like album title , track name, artist etc.
You can also use a metatag to point at album artwork. For what ever reason Microsoft don't do it this way. They place the album artwork in the folder containing all of the audio tracks as a hidden file. (It's so hidden that using show hidden and system files option won't even show it). Microsoft don't put the metatag info for album art into the sound file. so even if the artwork is present other systems won't show it correctly. It will show up fine in Windows media player and even in the file view in my music. but the meta tag is missing.
The answer if you are copying music from Windows media player is sadly to edit the album info for every album using a TAG editor. I'm currently using MP3 tag
The .jpeg file is hidden but the tag editor will usually find it anyway. If you are offered a choice select the file called "folder" (in MS windows 7). If you want to tidy up the hidden .jpegs. then copy the whole of "My music" to an external HDD using MS Synctoy. for some reason this reveals the hidden files on the external copy.
Probably in a pit underneath a steam loco somewhere.

    Hi
I have A5 as well and had the same problem ... now solved. I have a mac with iTunes. I copied the music I wanted into a folder on desktop. Then I downloaded MusicBrainz (free) and dropped the music into its left window then right clicked to search and the files appeared under their albums on the right window complete with album artwork. Then click save and presto they appeared on desktop with correct artwork. A couple of albums had no artwork so I found them on Amazon and copied them and dragged them to the files. I must confess I haven't transferred them to A5 yet but I did a test earlier with just 2 Albums and they worked

This is only true when "Hide protected operating files" tick box is enabled within Windows Explorer, to see album art, select Tools, then Folder Options, then under the tab View, I'd say 99% of people don't even untick this box & thats what hides the album art.

Been using WMP for many years to organise my music into a tree format as such, its a little translucent but it does show the files there.

Not wise for most though as they may delete other more important files lol.
