I would like to use Elsawin & VagCom but my computer is a Mac. I have an old laptop running Windows 7 that I keep in the garage with motorcycle manuals on. I've read that ElsaWin wont run on Win 7 and that XP is the last version that will run it.
Can anyone confirm this please before I run out and buy XP for the laptop.

You can run VCDS through a VM using Paralells or Bootcamp.

Thanks I've considered that but my iMac's a bit heavy to lug into the garage for the VCDS. I wondered if elsawin would fit on with bootcamp though, does it run XP programs?

Elsawin 4.0 runs out-of-the-box with either 32bit or 64 bit Windows7 with no issues.
VagCom I believe only runs under 32bit Windows7. If you are running a 64 bit Windows7 laptop, you need to setup a "virtual XP" partition which runs as an application under the 64bit Windows7. SW updates available from Microsoft website. When setting up the virtual partition you have no choice - you get Windows XP installed. You then install VagCom in your XP System. This facility is positioned by Microsoft as a "migration platform" for 3rd party apps where the developers could not be ars*d to produce Windows7 support. Virtual XP is rather slow to boot up but thereafter seems to run ok. Not sure if it can keep up with VagCom continuous logging, but that apart should be ok. My VagCom runs under native 32bit Windows7.

Sorry to mislead you. VCDS runs fine under Windows7 32 or 64 bit. You need to change the VCDS "Properties" to run in Compatibility Mode (XP Service Pack 3) and then run as normal.
