    Hi,

I have a 2007 Avant, but wanted to know where to find the isofix/anchor points.

My back seats dont go down, but my friend mentioned that it can be hidden away.

    Please advise.

Really easy Rikster, no need to move seat or anything. Between the base and back of the seat on both sides in the rear is where they are, look for 2 separate hoops per side. 2 hoops for each isofix base.

    Thanks.

But is there any other harness points besides the isofixes? Something on the parcel shelf or boot?

Reason I am asking is that my friend intends to buy my A6 off me so I can look for an estate version. However he has relocated abroad and one of the criteria is that it has the safety harness points other than the isofix. Weird.

There's something called a "Top Tether" which is some kind of enhanced ISOFIX fitting that will be on all cars as standard from a certain (relatively recent but not sure when) point (google "Top Tether" for all sorts of info). We've got a Jane Exo seat which as standard is ISOFIX + top tether. The top tether is intended to stop the seat rotating forwards in an accident, but seat company also sell an add-on that prevents this happening if you don't have a top tether. Our A6 Avant is a late 2006 and there are no top tethers in it hence we have the leg thing which our daughter likes to use as a platform to get into the seat anyway. I'm not sure if you can retro fit the top tether fixing point - could be worth asking a main dealer if they know whether this is possible or not.

    Here's some concise info:

Thanks for the reply. Useful info as the previous owner now has offered to buy back his car for the same price + paying for services such as cam belt, water pump etc. My car has done under 75k but the questions for the isofix/top tether is so that it ticks the boxes when it is imported. However being away from home means I dont have access to the car untill weekend so hence the questions.

Thanks again everyone who has replied.

My issue now is to attempt to find a similar spec A6 in estate, but proving difficult with the same mileage unless I pay over £12k. In which I am now questioning myself perhaps I can look at an A4 estate?

    Thoughts on this?

We went from a 2004 A4 Avant to the A6 because the A4 didn't have enough room in the boot for the size of pram that we apparently needed and all the associated stuff that went with it without partially disassembling the pram each time (not something you want to do on a regular basis). Added bonus with the A6 was the larger rear doors/opening making it easier to get a baby carrier in plus some actual legroom rather than next to none in the A4.

In a general sense the A6 rides a lot better than the A4 but the A4 felt a better drive to me if you were pushing on. It's also possible to get an A4 Avant with Quattro and a 2.0tdi engine which appeals to me as a low cost all rounder. All in all though, the A6 is a very nice place to be and if you have a family I'd say stick to one of those without question. If you don't, and you don't need the extra space then it could be worth looking at.

The B7 (if I've got my model codes right) was a minimal update to the B6 but the B8 was very different. I personally can't get on with the B8 due to the wheelarch intrusion into the drivers footwell which drove me crazy on a long run and made my left foot feel claustrophobic.

Thanks. All the comments confirmed my fears as I thought maybe as a quick stopgap I could downgrade. I guess I have 2 months to find the replacement car which is nice in a way because the previous owner knows the road tax runs out in late March, but I will have to do a few bits and bobs and drive the car to southampton ports.

I will carry on looking for the A6 estate, I really dont want cloth interior as I know that clearing up any mess on cloth is a nightmare. I have a 6 month old daughter so I would welcome the extra space as the boot is massive and its so much in there. However being an Avant version means that my back seats dont go down (or maybe I dont know how) but overall in the long run having an estate does make like more easier.

Split fold seats in the avant means you can fold part of it down and still have your daughter in the back.

Two months should be enough to find a decent one.
