Thanks for the concern and I will double, double check... It has been ordered with the reg number, along with some diff & transfer case oil.
if you are surprised at the price.. I am lucky enough to be using a trade acct for the oil, & what I don't need will go back.

During normal driving, it will change from 1st to 2nd and pull, 2nd to 3rd, the revs will climb and hold at about 2-2200rpm but road speed does not change proportionally to the revs. (TC clutch slipping) Then after a few seconds, the revs will drop back as the TC clutch will lock and then pull. 3rd to 4th TC clutch locks & pulls fine same for 5th & 6th...
Occasionally the shift from 2nd to 3rd is flawless, and other times it is all over the place. It has a mind all of its own, and I have tried to find pattern but I can't find a common cause. Down shifts are fine, sometime a little hash along with some upshifts.
So, I suspect the adaptation is slightly out and the oil is old. I want to change the oil and we will check the diffs and transfer box too.
Mine does just the same. It's almost like an extra gear between 3rd and 4th, and more noticeable in cold weather.
I did some research and i found the same issue a number of times. Some people think its more of a 'software fault', than mechanical. I've found sport or Tip mode improve things. I barely notice it when the engine is warmed up.
I've changed my oil which made no real difference. I suspect it could possibly be faulty solenoids causing a lazy shift.

    Hi guys

As the car has done 88k miles and I'm uncertain to whether the oil has been changed I've started to ring around for prices:

    Lincoln Audi main dealer:

"Sorry I can't give you a price as it's a sealed for life unit". I said ZF recommend a change at 80k and it has a drain and fill plug. This confused the girl on reception so she had to ring me back. The workshop controller has said it has a drain plug in case you have problems and we can do an oil change (no filter) for £176

    Just Audi / VW Specialist:

It's sealed for life but we can change the oil and filter for £165

Still awaiting a call from another independent

    Thanks

    Mark.

All done and 65 miles later, the box is nice and quiet , shifting has been improved and sharpened.
Very little in the way of debris on the magnets, which makes me happy. Oil wasn't too bad really.
Used a digital torque wrench and two of the mechatronic bolts at the front #4 & #7 nipped up, the others didn't budge.

I was prepared for it, but it is quite a few quid for this little job! Scott you were correct - Oil was £30/L in the end, and I bought 9 in total.
It took 5.3L and I am keeping the remaining oil for a second change in 1000miles ( just a drain & refill)
    The parts I used are:

    5.3L G060162A2 oil @ £30.92
    1 X 09L321371 Gasket @ £20.09
    1 X 09L325429 strainer @ £30.92
    1L G055145A2 transfer oil @ £97.35!! Ouch.

    Summary -
I am now satisfied that the box is in very good health, and after an adaptation drive, shifts well.
The 3rd gear issue is improved, and the clutch is locking much sooner than before.
Maybe it will improve further, just need to get some more miles on it & do the second oil change.
Rather wish I could have spend the 500 quid on something else though!

Wow! - not the cheapest and you did it all yourself? - this kind of answers the question with the issue I seem to have, 3rd gear slip and not locking up very quick, I have all the equipment to do it apart from getting the car raised up to get under it comfortably.

Can't believe how much that transfer oil is, I presume it's in a different section to the gearbox, as in a different drain/fill point (I still need to read up on this properly)..

Sounds like even taken to an Indi this job would be ££££.

    Thanks.

Seems very good that, I am looking at having this done but have the 3.0TDi so would be more no doubt.

There is a separate casing for the transfer box and it does not share its oil with any other part of the gearbox. Be aware - no drain on the transfer case, you need a vacuum tool that sucks out the oil through the filling point. There is very little space to get a tube in to drain the fluid as the Haldex occupies most of the free space.

I did most of it myself, with help at the filling point, as its much easier to have someone filling and someone else operating the gearbox & watching temps.
I borrowed a ramp in a garage, from someone I know as I used to be in the trade 20 years ago...

Thats very cheap. Get the spec of the oil. Any old oil will f**k it up.
