Had some 'bad' news this afternoon from my service manager .. I can't get an Audi warranty after the car hits 80k .. Currently on 79k so I can get at least another years policy for the time being.

I know early V6 dervs had problems (Gup!) but how are the last batch in the prefacelift cars for reliability when 80k comes?

I've had the intake manifolds replaced 2 or 3 times now, various glow plugs and other bits and bobs under warranty and I've certainly saved alot of £££ by having warranty.

It's booked in for its end of warranty health check on the 28th Jan along with its 2nd MOT and it will be 5 years old on the 31st Jan.

I have the money to pay for any future misfortunes and I know anytime after Jan 2014 when the engine light comes on it's gonna be expensive so just wanting to know really what to expect really?

Maybe its time for a new car ... who knows but I have to convince "the boss!" first of all

Cheeky plug - if anyone wants to make me an offer on the car let me know!

Mine is a 171Kw ASB in an A8L.
Feb '06 first registered, build date 10/05.
We have now done 194,000 miles and the only engine part to fail was the injectors, at about 185,000 miles they started to smoke in traffic.
Never had any swirl flap or chain tensioner problems which are the only other common problems I have noticed.
I change the oil twice a year at about 7,000 miles.

My opinion Chris you've missed all the manufacturing defects as yours is the very later pre facelift...
I'd be happy owning yours , if I was buying all over again then 05/57 IMO very good...

As you know Chris some parts are effected by mileage, some age due to age not mileage... you've lost £££ on deprecation as to keeping you ultimately have to make choice...

The nice thing about the 4F IMO is that lot's of DIYers and technical/mechanical people are able to guide you to fix/lower cost of repair...

But with a new one you've got manufacturer warranty, really depends how much you like keeping the current car? and perhaps budget for new?

Also parts become more freely available vs say like a C7 (A6), I know that some parts even VDO, Bosch, etc will not release as after market until a certain period has elapsed...

WOW great car!.... I think mine just maybe a bad one or the not so "Long Life service" regime (previous owners) killed it ...

Thanks guys - like I said I have a year to decide but I love the car and couldn't sell it as its been such a superb motor over the past 4 years.

But then another part of me is thinking I should sell in case something does happen but then again the car could be faultless so it's gonna take some thinking.

Of course I will keep up the dealer servicing as I have too good a relationship with them to cease it just because the car is out of warranty so definitely won't be doing that and I have the A3 too.

I could free up some shares and buy something that's 1 year old again like I did with this car maybe a C7 or I'd love a Q5 but gotta convince wifey first ill maybe scare her with some figures with the intake manifolds and glow plugs and see what that does!

I'm in no rush to part with the car - it's been the best car I've ever owned and will hold on to it as long as I can.

Gup you're welcome to buy if you wish!

If you like so much Chris (which I can agree with) then I'd really keep it ...

It's Audi's own warranty so it applies Europe-wide so I doubt there's any hope of another dealer allowing the policy.

I originally thought the limit was 100k but obviously not ... Just don't wanna be stung later down the line.

Your warranty is aftermarket I take it? I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole after having a bad experience with WarrantyWise.

My warranty is direct with Audi.

Bought it as part of the deal on the new car, How odd!

Right had some good news today ... I can get a 2 year policy but after that expires, that's it.

Hats of to Belfastagain, they pulled some strings and Audi Warranty are allowing the 2 year policy even though the car is at 79k .. I assume a combination of my SH and relationship with the dealer allowed that to be pulled off so bravo!

Total price was £948 but got that knocked down to £870 thanks to my service advisor and manager - includes MOT protection, key protection, no excess, no claim limit and roadside/breakdown protection too.
