Good afternoon, has anyone seen this before:

When I accelerate, if the engine is sluggish and takes a couple of seconds to respond, as the car accelerates it kicks out loads of black smoke.

However it doesn't always do this, only when sluggish. On other occasions the car accelerates like normal, responds immediately and no smoke at all.

I've had the air filter and the fuel filter replaced but made no difference.

We put it on a diagnostic machine and the code was P1495 - EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation).

A second code appeared referring to the Fuel Temp Sensor.

Could the EGR be responsible for the sluggish acceleration and black smoke?

How simple is it to fix or could there be an underlying problem?

    Cheers
    Richard

Once in a blue moon , put the car in 2nd gear and boot it for 400 yards or so. Just put the Revs just under the Red numbers and hold it there. All diesel engines need their exhaust de-coked now & then.
