    Hello all,

Have just bought a 2000 A4 (B5) Avant Tdi, which is suffering from the infamous LCD panel problem on the instrument (DIS) panel. Need to determine if the instruments are VDO or Jaeger, can this be done in VCDS (VAG-COM) ?

Had the car scanned with VCDS (VAG-COM) and get the following for Module 17 (instruments)

    *********************
    Address 17 -------------------------------------------------------
    Controller: 8D0 920 980
    Component: B5-KOMBIINSTR. VDO D09
    Coding: 00440
    Shop #: WSC 00000
    ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ AUZ7Z0X1278447
    No fault code found.
    *********************

Does the ' B5-KOMBIINSTR. VDO D09 ' mean they are VDO, or is it just coincidence ?

Any help or info on the subject gratefully received. Thanks.

What's the mileage on the car? The car has been cloned previously, clue is the messed up digits before the vin number...instruments are vdo by the way.

I guess it could of been ..... as they seem to be renowned for issues .... lcd panel, failing gauges etc.
Hopefully it's all perfectly innocent, it has service history and seemed to stack up, although only had a quick look, so will have a closer look at the service history this evening !
I just assumed it was an error whilst trying to connect to the module, as was unable to connect to the climate control module and got some strange 'star' type characters shown as the 'controller'.

Is your copy of VCDS legitimate or was it a Chinaman special from eBay?

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

    It's a friends.
Believe it was a legitimate, registered copy of VAG-COM, but using a non-genuine, 3rd party cable (USB).

adamss24 >> Oh dear ... not so good ! ... You learn something new everyday.

May have to do a bit more investigation work then ..... everything on the car points to the 145k miles it is currently showing as being about right. Will try and track the previous owner down & see if he can shed any light on it !
End of the day the car seems ok (so far !) ... and didn't pay much for it ..... so guess I'll just have to put it down to one of those lessons in life !
