    Hi all

    Just had my Passat serviced at my local VW dealer - excellent personal service here in France, plus two years free European breakdown service and courtesy car because it was carried out by a VAG garage. Long Life service 189€.

    I also asked them if they could enable the beep/chirp when locking function for me at the same time. Yes, of course they said. But when I picked up the car there were five technicians standing around the car and the VCDS unit scratching their heads! Seems like it is something they would like to know how to do, but don't get asked very often. They will be investigating this for me.

    In the meantime if anybody has any clues I could pass to the garage to help them with this I would appreciate it.

    Many thanks to all.

    So the electrics on an English car (ok German I know, but English registered) has got French mechanics scratching their heads? I bet there's a few British mechanics thinking that this is karma coming back to bite them for all the Pugs, Renaults & Citroens they have to deal with .

    I have enabled the chirp, but can't tell you the process off the top of my head. Someone like A6 Chris or MFGF will be able to though I'm sure. If you don't get any joy, let me know & I'll hook mine up again & jot the steps and modules down for you.

    Thanks for the information guys. So I have two lots of stuff to show the techies....

    5 0 Unlocking Confirmation (Horn) via Kessy
    4 1 Unlocking Confirmation (Blink) via Kessy
    3 0 Unlocking Confirmation (Horn) via Remote Control
    2 1 Unlocking Confirmation (Blink) via Remote Control
    1 0 Unlocking Confirmation (Horn) via Door Locks
    0 0 Unlocking Confirmation (Blink) via Door Locks
    11 15 Bit
    7 0 not relevant/unused
    6 0 not relevant/unused
    5 0 Locking Confirmation (Horn) via Kessy
    4 1 Locking Confirmation (Blink) via Kessy
    3 0 Locking Confirmation (Horn) via Remote Control
    2 1 Locking Confirmation (Blink) via Remote Control
    1 0 Locking Confirmation (Horn) via Door Locks
    0 1 Locking Confirmation (Blink) via Door Locks

    ...and

    [46] - Comfort System

    Coding

    Type of Confirmation when locking the Car via Remote Control.

    0 = Confirmation OFF
    1 = Confirmation via Blinker/Turn Signal
    2 = Confirmation via Beep/Horn
    3 = Confirmation via Beep/Horn & Blinker/Turn Signal

    Bearing in mind that they will be using the official VW software and I will have to convey the message to them in my pigeon French, which numbers will mean the most to them?

    Your help is appreciated.

    PS: I expect the French techies will be posting on their own VW site soon!!
    PPS: Tried to remove the white space in this posting ,but failed

    The explanation to the French techies will be the most difficult thing in this process.

    Credit to Martin's excellent site which taught me the long coding schematics a couple of months ago which I was able to apply when using VCDS on my own car.

    Simple version: All they need to do is change the Bit 7 of Byte 10 of the long code on your convenience module to uncheck the "Adaptation of Horn Blocked" option. The ATA Confirm option then appears as an MFD menu option on your dash display allowing you to switch the chirps on / off without needing to select further adaptation options or change any other parts of the long code. The whole thing (including activating chirps + blink lights for remote, keys and KESSY) can be done by changing the values in Bits 0 through to 5 of Bytes 10 and 11 of the long code but releasing the menu option is the easiest way using the VAS505x diagnostic dealer tools I have been told (if not the case then they can change the other bits as necessary all at once).

    Heres mine (example only as specific to my vehicle) under my 46 Cent Conv module:

    01910A0001860E763004951570085FCE107800 Adaptation of Horn Blocked (Original code)
    01910A0001860E763004151570085FCE107800 Adaptation of Horn Unblocked (New code)

    If using VCDS this change allows options 2 and 3 of the available options as described by A6_Chris under the Adaptation option of the Central Conv Module (aka the Comfort Module) should VCDS users find them unsaveable (Bit 7 is the reason).

    Byte 0 is the first 2 characters, Byte 1 the next 2 and so on. From the above you can see Byte 10 change from 95 to 15 to allow the ATA (Anti Theft Alarm) confirm option.

    Good Luck!

    Hey, thanks to everybody for the input. As Mad Mitch says the difficulty is explaining this to the French techies! But, they should have some idea how to use VCDS, so just need the final pointers.

    I will let you know how I get on.
