    Hi,
As anyone got the exact timing marks for the above as i am having problems. I bought the car running on three cylinders. i have replaced the offending exhaust valve.. cleared the faults but after refitting belt it seem to almost be impossible to start and will not tickover at all, if i hold pedal down a little it will run at 1200 revs after cranking like hell (45seconds +), as soon as you blip throttle it cuts out, if you rev very slowly it will rev to 4000 revs easy enough but it cuts out as soon as the pedal is removed. i have checked for fault codes and now none show up, it also seems to be poping when i crank before it starts..many thanks..
PS i will post a guide to repair and reffit belt shortly as soon as i'm 100% sure its OK.. Also how do i get rid of this INSP warning i tried it with VAS but it still keeps flashing..

The timing marks are clear on the car, TDC on the tooth belt lower pulley and TDC number 1 on the cam pulley. You should be able to clear the service light with a VAS PC dongle.

Thanks Crasher, however when the pulley is removed i see a protruding mark on the engine casing and 1 tooth on the crank gear is angled, i align this and camshaft is easy. So if that is correct why will it not run propery, no ignition settings, The advance when running at 1200rpm is -27% according to Diagnostics i would have thought holding at 1200rpm it would be much lower untill i rev up. maybe the distributer at fault causing the missfire??.
Anyone know what the minimum compression should be although i dont think this is at fault as my gauge indicates green and they are all above 10BAR.
    Thanks again for your help

If you have the upper pulley on the mark and the lower pulley ground back tooth align with the mark on the flange then the valve timing is correct, What fault codes are you getting?

First of all thanks again Crasher ( and appologies for the wrong name)..
No fault codes now. but earlier before i did compression test i got p1325, P1326, P0300, P0301, Miss fire and knock sensor faults all i assume related to running on three cylinders,
I havent done a fuel injectore test yet but i did try plugs in turn and all spark when i crank.
Cylinder 1 had a completely damaged exhaust valve, luckily no damage to the seat or guide. i bought a new valve and ground it in, compression was a little lower as i expected until the oil lines the bores again i will do a retest just incase..
I tried to remove INSP message with VAS it says unable to complete ( i think thats because it was already done)
Thanks once more for your response.

    16684/P0300/000768 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

    Possible Causes

    • Air Intake System leaking
    • Fuel Supply faulty
    • Injector(s) faulty
    • Ignition Cable(s) and/or Spark Plug(s) faulty
    • Ignition Coil(s) faulty
    • Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18) stuck/open
    • Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty

    Possible Solutions

    • Check Misfire Recognition
    • Check Air Intake System
    • Check Fuel Supply
    • Check Injector(s) and Injector Sealing
    • Check Ignition Cable(s) and Spark Plug(s)
    • Check Ignition Coil(s)
    • Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18)
    • Check Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)

    Special Notes

    • This DTC indicates that one or multiple cylinders are misfiring, but the ECU fails to identify the cylinder.

Thanks again for the replies, the error codes have all gone now, i was hoping for another to show up, New seals on inlet manifold checked. EGR faults now gone..It takes ages to start and then if i try to rev too quick it dips and cuts out rev very slow it appears to be running on all for cylinders, sounds like its misfiring when cranking, dont think its leads plugs as i can hold at didfferent revs and it doesn't miss a beat..
as soon as i try to rev it dips and hesitates before cutting out, i have also reset the throttle body with VAS but still the same....

Was the car lying up before you bought it? Is the fuel fresh? VCDS says on code P0301

    6685/P0301/000769 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

    Possible Causes

    • Ignition system
    • Fuel injectors
    • Fuel pressure
    • Running out of fuel
    • EVAP canister purge valve
    • Evaporative emission system
    • Low compression
    • Base engine problems
    • Controle Module damaged

    Special Notes

    • This feature search for engine misfire in a specific cylinder. Most of the time the cause for a misfire is a lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, or poor compression

    So it's no1 cylinder

How did the valve get damaged did it hit the piston? was there any scoring in the pot? Did you try removing one ht lead/ coil pack at the time to see which cylinder isn't firing?
