First let me say a big HELLO to you all. this is my first of hopefully many posts. Second, SORRY if this has been covered many times before but i couldnt find a definitive answer to what im about to ask.

I am (hopefully) about to buy my very first Audi, its a '94 Audi 80 1.9 TDI. My question is, can i run it on SVO without any modifications??

I currently have a Peugeot 306 1.9 TD that im running on SVO but had to change the fuel pump first, from lucas to bosch.

Thank you to anyone that answers this.

    welcome to the forum.
in a word, its not advisable to run on svo without modifications to do it properly.
my 80 has over a grands worth of elsbett kit fitted to it and happily runs on svo all day long.
your old pug was indirect injection so is more tolerable to svo, but your 1z powered audi is direct injection and far more prone to problems, although you have a bosch pump so it is quite feasible to convert or run a 2 tank kit.

Thanks for the info zollaf. But to clarify, when you say "not advisable" does that mean can do and might be ok? also, what mods do you recommend to make this work.

not advisable means i wouldn't advise doing it with an unconverted engine. you would get away with some svo in the tank, 50 % probably in the summer.
my mods are a heat exchanger running off the coolant, to heat and thin the oil, larger bore pipes for the feed and return to the tank, modified injectors, a second filter with an electric heater that runs until the engine is hot and some relays that operate to bring resistors into the coolant sensor circuit to advance the timing more when its starting from cold.
quite complex i know, but it works.
if you use any svo, keep a regualar check on the sump oil level as svo washing past the bores and into the sump is the big problem with direct injection.

so are you saying the chances are reasonably good that things will be ok if i dont exceed a 50/50 mix in summer and maybe 70/30 in winter

yes, basically about right, just keep a check on that oil level. if you need to spin it over a lot to start then use less svo. i would add an inline heat exchanger as well.

can't view that page, my computer says its infected with malware ???.
anyway, customs say you can use any veg oil based fuel, either svo, wvo or bio, upto 2500 litres a year. any more and you have to pay road duty. they just like people to keep records of what they use and if they exceed 2500 l just send them a cheque for the relevant amount. mileages are recorded at mot time though and they are aware of things like who is doing it, so clocking 25k a year in your 4x4 and not declaring it might land you in trouble.

    Sorry Zollaf
I was reading this on work PC just tried to open link at home Zone Alarm closed it down please excuse this error

Just trying to suss out the best route. Does running veg oil mean less power? and or less MPG?

I just found this on Wikipedia Vegetable oil fuel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Following a review in late 2006,[14] HM Revenue & Customs has announced changes regarding the administration and collection of excise duty of biofuels and other fuel substitutes (Veg Oil). The changes came into effect on June 30, 2007. There is no longer a requirement to register to pay duty on vegetable oil used as road fuel for those who "produce" or use less than 2,500 litres per year.[15] For those producing over this threshold the biodiesel rate now applies.
In 2011, the Duties associated with the use of Biodiesel changed to reflect a flat rate of 20 pence per litre of biodiesel used. No lower threshold now exists.
