This filter is located in the engine compartment. What I don't know how to do is removing the cowling to get to the cabin air filter. It appears that I need to remove the wipers but there is something else holding it to the windscreen, and I don't want to force it and breaking it.
    Thanks for advice.

Pollen filter or the actual air filter?

Air filter housing is located just on front of the battery.

Pollen filter can be seen with the removal of the glovebox.

It's the pollen filter located in the engine compartment below the cowling. I just can't get the cowling off. I don't want to break it and I don't see how it is secured

This one is accessed from the engine compartment NOT from the glovebox. I know because I took all 9 screws out to drop the whole glove box area. After all that I called the service department and they said its in the engine compartment. I didn't realize I would run into a problem trying to get the cowling off, otherwise I might have asked, but I might not have gotten an answer, other than "bring it in"

The link you have provided is for the old a3

It's in behind the glovebox as per my link.

I have a 2010 and even though that's an older A3, I just wanted to indicate that the placement of the pollen filter is in the engine compartment, not as everyone thinks is just below the glove box. Most vehicles make it easy and put it below the glovebox, but not certain models. I have seen it also on a VW GTI as well.

The pollen filter on every 2010 A3 is just behind the glovebox (glovebox doesn't need removing), remove the felt/poly trim, then slide the plastic cover out, the filter can then be pulled down!!!!

@Chris, is it in the same position as per my A6? And are the filters the same?
Just a quick question that I though you would know the answer to.
    Thanks in advance.
