20 inch wheels on Audi A6

Hi guys

New to the forum as I'm not (yet) an Audi owner.

I'm currently looking for a 2009/10 A6. It has to be diesel and would probably be the 2.0 possibly the 2.7. Has to be an s line too.

If I find one with the Le Mans 19s then I would probably stick with these however if it has the 18s then I'd be keen to upgrade and love the idea of 20s as I think the A6 is a big enough car to pull off 20s without looking silly.

I'd only go for Audi replica style alloys to try and keep it looking factoryish.

My question is what size wheels (I.e. width) would I need. I definitely wouldn't want the wheels protruding out and being wider than the body.

Also, I would want to fit some lowering springs. Don't want it slammed just want to eliminate any big gaps between arches and tyres.

Any advice anyone could provide would be much appreciated.

I have no idea on numbers but you have the same initials as me

The RS6 comes with 20's as standard so it is possible.

You may need narrower alloys than a RS6... as that has outwards wider arches... hope that make sense

Same initials and I'm a Chris too!

Hard to compare to the rs6 as it has the flared arches although I don't think the rs6 20s are overly wide they are just spaced further out.

I believe the le mans 19s are 8.5 inches wide so as long as 20s were the same width I guess they would fit easy as long as tyres were very low profile. (which I know will give a harsh ride but I'm ok with this)

I have 255/35r19 on 19x8.5j et43 wheels and if you can get a wheel with 255/30r20 of similar offset (somewhere between 8.5" and 9.5" width) then it will have identical dimensions. Mine is a standard 2.7 A6 and has plenty of clearance, not sticking out at all beond the arches. In fact I could have gone for less offset (10mm probably) without any issues.

I looked into 20 reps on my le mans, 9 x 20 et 45 with 255/30/20 is spot on. 1 of my friends works at audi & his company is an a6 with the option 20's on it & they look stunning & don't give a bad ride either.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Just put down a deposit on a 2010 A6 2.0 tdi (170) le mans with the 19s fitted so doubt I'll be going for 20s.
