As per title, a local independent has quoted £850 all in for clutch and flywheel replacement.
Just wondered if this was a good price?
Tried a couple of other garages and they wouldn't even quote me saying they wouldn't take the job on!

    Hi,

You could always buy the parts separate, and get someone to quote you on the labour?

From eurocarparts the cost for both clutch and flywheel are about £365 (CLUTCH15 CODE), alternative shops might be able to beat this.

    Thanks,

I've been quoted £780 by my local indi, so you're not a million miles off. Like i_786_i says though you could provide your own parts to keep costs down, which is something I looked into. Just make sure they're genuine oem parts as anything else will undoubtedly be false economy.

I was quoted 650 for this job on my 140 passat, the guy was talking about replacing the dmf with a solid jobby...

Ive heard they rattle though? Anyone had same experience?

Fingers crossed I'm a long way off getting this done on the A4

now, iam not really a fan of main dealers, but audi fixed prices are, quattro: £899, non quattro: £749 for clutches. you know they'll use oem parts and have got the model specific know how to do it professionally as well as any support if something does go wrong. since either way you paying the best part of a grand i would pay the extra £50 for the dealer. its also a good resale point that the clutch is genuine audi. that would sway me if i had to choose 2 identical cars; one with an oem clutch and one without.

That doesn't include the dmf which is the expensive part.

That's a good price as the garage I use is vey competitive & yours is quite a bit cheaper still. Re: the solid unit conversion, I've heard from a couple of mechanics who've fitted them saying they've never had any complaints after fitting them. One of them did temper that however by saying that the solid unit could put more strain on other components as the car was designed for the smoother dmf. So I guess it's a personal preference thing & everyone has their own view on it.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

    All done. Was well knackered.
Still had a rattling from the front of the engine.
So I changed the aircon pulley and now it's quiet as a diesel.
