Hi, I have just changed the fuel filter on my 05 A4 2.0 TDI avant 140 as it was suffering from a slight hesitation when accelerating out of sharp uphill corners, the fuel that came out of the filter was a milky blue in colour! Has anybody experienced this? It has been suggested to me that it could have accidentally had petrol in the tank in the past, not sure how this would turn the diesel that colour though!

A bit of guidance would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

Diesel should be anything from clear to amber to light brown.

Milky diesel suggests it's mixed with something - probably water.

I thought that but it was just a strong blue colour that you couldn't see through in a glass jamjar, thanks for your reply though.

this is interesting. where do you live for a start, just roughly, to rule out dodgy tax free diesel. can you post a pic of it as well.
Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

Ah, when you said milky blue, I saw milky white with a dash of blue colouring.

If it's strong blue, then it could be something more sinister. IIRC blue is marine/heating/aviation fuel across Europe, no idea what it's used for in the UK though.

Are you filling up from large chains or small independents?

Ulsterbus in NI use blue diesel in their buses - so if you're not from NI it can't be that but the blue certainly isn't normal.

In the Isle of Man, I've only ever used main garages for fuel, shell and total, I've never noticed or heard of it being blue though.

Have you got a picture of the fuel? Presumably you've got it stored if it was in a jamjar?
