Hi, I've just sourced a thule towbar from ebay with electrics but it's not clear how it fits exactly. Does anyone know if I need to remove the rear bumper and if so how, as the instructions were conspicuous in their absence...

    Thanks!

Yes you will need to remove the rear bumper, there are 3 nuts inside the boot under the lights each side way down low they're real knuckle rippers, there maybe some more between the lights cant remember its been so long, the holes are pre drilled for the bar, discard the ally strengthener, have you got reversing sensors, normal towbars dont like them.you will need a smart box for the electrics otherwise you will constantly get a MIL.You will also need to cut a section out of the lower bumper for the bar.

Yeah, I do have sensors... is it that a proximity thing or does the bar get in the way of the wiring? The bar came with a precut ally sheet from the previous owner.

Conventional. It has a long drop bar that could well gouge out some speed humps once fitted!

My understanding is if its convetional it will interfere with the sensors, anyway try it if you need a tow bar sod it,you could disable it if it does.mine doesn't, the guy supplying mine (witter)told me about the sensors, incidentally I had to completely remove the ally part, thule might be different, its straight forward to remove the bumper just awkward getting at the 3 nuts either side, the pre drilled holes are covered by a piece of tape and underseal, but when you offer up the bar its obvious where they go.

    Hi,

Fitted a tow-bar to my 2004 avant last year (Similar to Thule) Bumper off etc. The most difficult of the job was the wiring! There is a relay switching block etc. (Keep in a dry place, mine got wet and had to be replaced!!)

The destructions were a little sketchy, but it seems to make sense when you get it all to bits!!

    Good luck.

    Brad
