    Hi guys,
    I have a passat 1.4tsi 2010
, and i feel there is lack of power especially if i am at low rpm, below 2000 rpm. The car seems to always get into the lesser gear to accelerate, although i tried not to press the gas pedal much. So i was wondering how do you know a defective supercharger or turbo charger. N.b. The car wasn,t like that and it is new, only 30000 km done.
    I'll appreciate your responses. Thanks

    Hi
i didnt know you could get a 1.4lt passat, surely such a big car with a small engine will be underpowered anyway, also dont think passats have superchargers not here in the UK anyway, if the turbo is playing up car will usually go into limp mode, you will need to get a code read to see whats happening. I stand to be corrected about the 1.4lt and the supercharger.

That's what vw said is their art. They have this 1.4 TSI with 90kw, that has 122hp, and another 75kw, with a lesser power can't remember how much. Anyway it has this superchatger to work ar low rpm (below2200) with a turbocharger for above 2200 rpm. So according to this information i think supercharger maybe faulty, as i feel week acceleration at low rpms only, but the car isn't limping

Don't knock the turbo powered smaller engines, heard they are good with good economy. It's the way the petrol engines are going - fords latest design is a 1.0 focus with turbo that has decent power and 60mpg

Yes the supercharger is designed to produce a consitant boost at low rpm before the turbocharger kicks in fully. A lack of power below 2200 rpm suggests the supercharger is not working but can you feel the turbo kick in. The change from supercharger to turbocharger should be so smooth you don't notice it. If the supercharger stops working you should feel the turbocharger kick in.

I think lower power supercharged engines will perform more like a naturally aspirated engine, but with the benefit of much better economy...

To give you some idea I had the Golf 1.4 TSi on loan with a DSG, I found it to offer the same sort of grunt as my Sat 2.0 PD DSG, but for the potential repair costs I was quite sold on it, it gave the same MPG as well even though it was petrol.
