been looking at new tyres to go on 19" rims. obviously for top brands its an expensive business. budget tyres i have seen are nankang ns2 for £314 or fullrun just under £300. any opinions on these? other option is to go part worn for top brand. would cost £160 at local garage. normally 5mm tread roughly.
    1.8T, votex bodykit, 18" RS4's, tinted windows.
scouser, but car was bought and paid for.

Someone's going to have to say it - if you want cheaper tyres, reduce the size of the rims. Running on 19's, you'll have the option of running on decent rubber or running on a budget, the two are almost completely exclusive.

Part worns make me cry inside, granted they're not as bad as remoulds but...

esh, i was just contemplating saying exactly that but didn't want to upset anyone. simple really, don't drive what you can't afford.
thats not a dig at the op by the way, just saying.
incidentally, avon tyres are always worth a look, quite cheap but very good. i run zv5's and find them very good, better in fact than tyres costing a lot more.
Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

see the point being made, but in the real world of kids and a recession unfortunately its not always possible to have all the cake and eat it. therefore you have to do best possible. yes could get smaller rims, then again i could get a 1.2 fiesta which would be cheaper all round. as however i would like a decent car with big alloys i have to accept sacrifices have to be made and premium rubber aint an option. i appreciate your help and realise that the options listed do not come recommended, will take that on board.

As I am sure you are not going to go and buy a smaller set of wheels just because you need some tyres, I will give you a HELPFULL reply to your question .
I bought a cheap set of alloys and tyres package for my Seat Cordoba Vario 3 years ago. The tyres that came on the wheels were Nankang and they are still running well. 3 years later. I do roughly 12'000 miles a year at least. They are a good tyre and from working on cars day in, day out, I have seen alot worse makes of tyres that are out there. I would rate Nankang over all other BUDGET tyres and even some BRAND ones too

I buy Michelin everytime for a reason!

Remember the tyres are the only things between you and the road, don't skimp on quality.

I dislike my post being taken out of context, I considered it quite helpful advice - it's common sense really, the one thing you rely on in an emergency to protect your little cherub is friction. Brakes and tyres are responsible for ensuring this. If you cheap out on tyres, you put passengers lives at risks and to me, there's no value to be put on kiddywinkles lives.

But hey, don't listen to me, I just drive a cheap little fiesta - I know nothing about anything.
