has anyone else had problems with their whole dashboard lights flickering.I took my 2009 golf 140 tdi gt to the local dealears and was told that the alternator was causing this to happen but vw don't see it as a fault and therefore are not prepared to rectify it, however if I was prepared to pay they could carry out some work to rectify this???

I've not noticed it on our 2010 1.6 Match but a few years ago I had a Peugeot 806 that did the same, interior lights flickered too, dealer also refused to see it as a fault.

James Tiger Woo reported a few instances from recollection - perhaps in his 60k mile repotrt, but i think there was also a separate thread about it.

I suspected battery on its way out, but i think he got rid of the car before anything got resolved/investigated.

You could always check the voltage of the battery with a mutlimeter across the terminals, and the output of the alternator in the same manner with the engine running. Also worth measuring voltage when under load, so switch on heated mirrors, rear window, air con on full, headlights on etc.

You should see around 14.4-14.8V at the terminals with the engine running, perhaps 0.5v less when under load.

well i have contacted vw customer service and the car has been back to the main dealer again but they insist there is not a fault with the car so thats the end of that by the look of it.The warranty is out now as well so it looks like I am left with flickering dashboard lights.I have told vw what i think of their customer service.

I have no idea if the new MOT test is being implemented yet (http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice...nges-2012.html) but would/could the flickering dashboard warning lights possibly lead to a MOT fail ?.

Either way, I can't see how VW don't see this as an issue, it shouldn't happen, and could possibly be a sign of worse things to come if some electronic device is malfunctioning.

No - no. I still have it, now up to 74k and nearly due its seventh (I think) service.

The problems I had seemed to be weather related - the car was stood, in the snow, for a period of time and nothing worked until the car warmed up again. That problem hasn't recurred. The car also reported every single bulb out, despite them working fine - that only ever happened the once too - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na7zzynuTnY

The problem I occasionally have is that I'll put the key in the ignition, turn it and I'll get a random "bing" with no warning.

my 2009 gt 140 golf is doing it as well, I sent a video to customer services because they wouldn,t believe me a few years ago they offered to repair it free , the car was ok for a few months then started flickering again .I tookmit back to the main dealer and they again could not find the fault on a dianostic, bought the switch that dimms the dashboard lighting and it stopped for a few months again but has just started flickering yet again, really ****** off with it now and vw are a shower of s##t to deal with once they have had your money
