OK boys and girls, who are we using or recommending for classic car status insurance and can anybody give me an example of what they are paying, for which model, and their age and relevant details.
I am looking to cover a '95 2.6 v6 coupe and quite frankly my regular insurer, who have always been very good, have now apparently lost the plot.
    Many thanks in anticipation

    How is a '95 Audi a classic ??

I'd be interested to know who insures a V6 for £210 fully comp. I pay £49 per month for a 1995, 2 litre 16v and I am 49 this year with 8 years no claims.

I'm not a million miles off that for a v6, I'm about 250, fully comp at 30. I'm through Elephant.

the rule of thumb is 15 years old, although this does vary. some insurers will insist its a second car and impose mileage restrictions.

Andy's Top Tip for Car Insurance:- Name a woman on your policy, will bring it down, obviously not a dangerous driver, but just a bogo standard woman on your policy will usually see a drop.

I can't even be accused of being sexist, the female driver only insurance has gone through the courts a few years back....

    Ok , clarification time.
I asked the question as I was under the impression that some people were enjoying some good deals insuring their vehicles as classics.
As zollaf quite rightly points out some insurers classify 15 years old , some 25 years etc. Some will only entertain the " classic" idea on a limited usage/mileage set up or as a "second" car only and not as a regular/main commuter.

andy757, I never suggested at any time that a 1995 Audi was , or is a classic .
If you do a very quick and simple " go compare or compare the market" type search for quotes, I am sure you would be surprised and could potentially save a couple of quid.
I didn't get too many "good quotes" from the classic insurers that suited my requirements for reasons mentioned above, ie; useage mileage etc, but a couple for the £250-300 area.
Had approximately 5-6 through the comparison sites at a similar £245-280'ish, and one very favourable £ 199.95 per year as a lump sum or 11 monthly payments of £24.36 and 1x payment of £39.74 deposit, which totals to about £315.
I called my insurer and told them of the £199.95 quote and that they were higher than double with the renewal quote of £390.99 and paying monthly made a total of £438.47 for the year.
After a brief " chat to the manager " they came back with a better quote of £210.99 in one payment for the year, which I readily accepted and payed instantly.

As to who would insure a v6 for £210 fully comp, I'll tell you with a few of my specific details.
RIAS are the brokers, using Ageas are the insurer who specialise in cover for the over 50's, though I'm not over 50 they still insure me.
My age, 45 in November coming
    Gender , male
    Car Audi coupe E 2.6 v6 1995 N reg
Insured , policy holder , ( 44 year old HGV 1 driver) and spouse( 42 y/old nurse with diabetes), both with clean full UK drivers licences and no limitations or convictions.
    Cover type, comprehensive
    Use, social domestic and pleasure.
    Compulsory excess £200
    Voluntary excess £100
    No claims bonus 9+ years
No claims bonus protection , yes
Access to any other vehicles at my home, yes 2 others
    Vehicle parked on driveway overnight.

    Express Insurance £199.95 p/a
    11x£24.36
    1x£39.74
    Total by instalments £315

    Endsleigh Insurance £221
    11x £19.09
    1x£42
    Total by installments £252.

So if you are prepared to do a search and are able to pressurise you own insurer you can find £210 fully comprehensive or similarly low quotes for a v6 Audi.

Thanks Stuart, very interesting. Does the fact you are an HGV 1 driver help keep premimums down ??

In terms of breakdown assistance and replacement car etc, do they provide this? I am with Tesco at the moment and pay £49 per month fully comp, UK wide breakdown and recover. Age 49 in September this year, less than 10k mileage a year (genuine as I work from home), had my partner on the policy as a named driver but took her off as we saw no financial benefit and she's covered 3rd party anyway if she drives it (very rare).

One good thing about Tesco is that they are very good to recover and assist if broken down. Twice in the last year I have called them for roadside assistance and on both occassions, the breakdown truck has turned up in less than 30 minutes.

My insurance is up for renewal on 1st July so I will start to look around and see what I can find.

Morning Andy, I have a feeling that being a professional driver actually pumps the premium up but not sure by how much.
Courtesy car if my car had to go for damage repair but to be honest it would be cheaper to self repair or scrap than to claim and pump up the renewal of the next years premium.
As for breakdown cover I opted away from this as my use is very local and the chances of being stranded are slim and I would do my own mech repairs anyway.
If your policy is coming up for renewal soon then you would surely be wise to give the comparison sites a look, it's the first time I had bothered with this new fangled computor search rigmarole, but it showed itself to be worthwhile.
    Good luck
