I am failing miserably to use my newly bought Halfords Air Con Recharge can on my Sharan. The obvious LP connector on the engine seems to be too big for the connector on the can. Might I be trying to connect to the HP plug? Hours of trawling internet for VW Sharan engine diagrams has had zero results (although can get diagrams of neclear submarines and eurofighters!). Google kept pointing me to this forum. Might this be the bed of knowledge I seek. Any help would be really appreciated (short of telling me to go to KwikFit which would be only£4 more expensive than the can at Halfords!!)

Thanks Andy, I already have bought the charging can. I can see one of the charging plugs at the front of the engine but I do not know if this is the high or the low pressure plug. I suspect/hope that it is the high pressure plug because the recharged connector seems to small.

next time i will take your advice and avoid this hassle by paying a man to do it for me...in the meantime can anyone help me find the low pressure recharge plug?

If I remember correct, these recharge cans need to be used on the low side connector. If used on the high side, they could risk exploding...

When using these type of canisters, be carful not to overfill the system, as further damage could occur if over filled. I agree with Andy, you are better to get this done by a specialist, who will use the correct machine, evacuate the system, check for leaks, refill to the correct levels with R134a gas, and the correct grade of lubricant (PAG oil).

Stuart s right m8 , you can end up causing damage if not careful , so go steady

i lalso ooked into the halfords DIY can , but then found out Kwik Fit do the lot for £45 !!!

Also if they cant get a 10% improvement on your aircon you get your money back !! not sure if anyone ever has lol

But anyway , think im going to Kwik Fit ,

Will let you know wot they are like soon , should be going in tomorow afternoon ,

AArrrggghhh The challenge continues. I know that the best idea is to do the KWIK FIT thing but I am seized with the challenge of finding the Low Pressure Port. I know where it should it be and I can follow the high and low pressure pipes to/from the dashboard but I still can't locate the LP Port. Please some kind soul out there release me from this misery and I'll promise to pay the professionals to do it in the future!!

My N-Reg Sharan Carat 2.0's "Climatronic" air conditioning rarely works. When I accelerate it often suddenly changes from cool to warm. It never runs cold, certainly not ice cold. I took it to Tyresales - they offer to regas for £45 - and they told me they thought the valve was stuck in the fitting behind the indicator, which they removed to carry out the regas.

Has anyone else had their aircon suddenly change temperature, especially from cool to hot?

Tyresales suggested I consult VW or a specialist but I am afraid I might end up paying more to repair the aircon than the Sharan is worth!

    Advice please!

The AC system robs the engine of few ponyes when its working, so its switched off when sudden acceleration its needed, thats why its changes from cold to hot. Your system may need regassing, as there might not be enough freon(r134a-cooling liquid !). Do not let anyone fill your system with recycled gas as its not as eficient that fresh gas from the bottle ! Thats why your AC its not ice cold !

£50! I wish! My local VW Dealer wanted well over £100, and even the local independant charged £90 for this service. And the AirCon, whilst it fared well in Italy this summer, is not 'ice cold' as it was when I bought the (02) vehicle.
