    Hi all
I would like to log some measure blocks on different channels as I think I am having issues with poor mpg.
I have tried doing some different channels but when I go to log them I only get instantaneous values.
I have viewed Martin1810's website but I guess I am missing something.
Could someone explain to me (step by step) how to log from idle to 3000rpm and is it possible to log more than 3 channels at one time?
    Thanks in advance.

Damm I thought I explained it so well.

What you can do, depends on what vcds you have. Different versions have different abilities.

    Hi Martin
    Thanks for your reply.
I had a look on the ross-tech site last night, sorry didnt think to look there before.
I think what I need to do is:
    Select control module
    Select
    Engine
    08 Meas Block
    Select whichever groups desired
    Log
    Start
    Stop(when finished)

    Am I missing anything?

    That's basically it. Did you look at;
    https://sites.google.com/site/1810martin/vcds-data-log

That one seems fairly straight forward.

    I did.
But the results that I got were not what I expected to get.
I want to do the log from idle to 3000rpm and also the engine health check.
I will have another go tomorrow.
I think I know what I need to do now

As that great saying goes "its not you its me"

    Hi there,
Martin maybe you could take a look at the attached log for me please.
I just took a quick spin for about 15mins.The engine wasn't very cold when I started.
My version of excel doesn't give me the options that are in your demo so thats me stuck.
Is there anything in the log that would explain my poor mpg or do I need to do a longer graph.
I recently changed the temp. sensor as I got an emissions warning, which showed up in vcds as a faulty temp. sensor.
    Many thanks.

    I had a quick look at your log. It is possible your thermostat is not shuting completely and possibly the EGR is a bit slugish. Can you do another run of the same blocks but;
Get the engine good and hot first. Then pick a road where you can accelerate in 3rd from 1000 rpm to 4,500 rpm roughly in one smooth run. Also include a log of a minute or so at idle, same temp and a few minutes at constant cruise in top gear. That will make it much easier to see what the EGR is doing as well as see how the fuel and coolant temps behave.

    Thanks you very much Martin.
I will get to work on that.
I just did a log from idle to 3000rpm before I saw your reply on blocks 1,3,4,7,11 and 13 if they are any help.
    The logs are attached.
It is a tiptronic, not sure if that influences the results on the previous log.
    Thanks,Dave.

Hi Martin, just got back from doing those logs.
    They are attached below.
It was approximately 7deg C when doing the test and the coolant temp didn't seem to want to go above 85deg C.
Also I wasn't brave enough to rev it above 4000rpm in 3rd in the auto box.
    Many thanks.

The last lot of logs are ideal. They all look ok. The only thing that may be of interest is the coolant temperature. It is hovering on the 85 degree mark. It is just possible the thermostat is not operating correctly. It is very difficult to tell when the figures are this close. If I am right, the engine may be running on a less than optimum fuel map. You could try starting the engine from cold and going for a drive whilst logging coolant temp. This won't confirm things but the shape of the warm up graph might help.
