excuse my ignorance but what is total closure? i think i know but want to check.

total closure is where you close all windows totally at the same time, or you can open all windows in the same manner. if you put your key in the lock and turn to unlock and hold in that position, all windows will go down. the reverse applies for holding the key in the lock position

AFAIK you cannot disable total closure.

A screwdriver in the door lock will open all the windows and the doors, not just the drivers door - unless of course you have a fault already.

Maybe they didn't nick anything after seeing the Matalan bag

Some years ago, I had a Peugot 205 GTi 1.9 which I absolutely loved. What a car! It was at my sister's house for a week while I was in Portugal, she blocked it in with her own car every day (after taking my pug to work for a blast!) Anyway, it was approx 8 yards from my sister's bedroom window overnight, fully alarmed and immobilised. Come the morning, gone. Poor lass has never forgiven herself, but it's not her fault!!

As I ranted and raved for the next year or so about immobilisers, alarms, etc, I was told that it really doesn't matter what security you put on your car. Of course alarms and immobilisers will put some feefs off, if your car is wanted, they will take it. Whatever alarm or security is put on a car, the repo companies need to have (or get) a way of removing said security in order to beable to go and take the car back. If the repo firms have it, feefs will have it.

I never really did get over the theft of that car! How ridiculous.

i agree totally with the above, immobilisers and alarms very rarely stop a thief, they simply impede their progress.

i've got a delocking kit for mine to stop this from happening, it is a rather poor flaw to have on what are such expensive vehicles. the laugh of it is, my insurance declare my insurance void if the car isn't alarmed and immobilised, but for what its worth, you may as well leave the keys in the ignition with todays thieving little toe-rags.

ive had a camera installed on my house since last new years when the lady across the road kicked in my bravas door, its great at night because you can clearly see the IR LEDs lit up... that and the security floodlight we have is enough to deter most thieves

For an Audi you disable 'full closure' of the sunroof and windows, on the key & remote, you deduct 64 from your central locking/central convenience basecode number (-64 decimal)

On a VW with different binary positions, i am not sure. It is possible that a different basecode or one of the adaptation channels will deal with windows.

Alternately, you could use an aftermarket addon to alter window function, 'Autowindows' for example.

The police & emergency services massively powerful TETRA communication system has been allocated frequencies very close to those for 'free use'.

If you live near a police station (large transmitter), or have a neighbour in the force (TETRA on house) it can render some nearby car remote and house alarm systems virtually useless.

i didnt know i had total closure but it worked. only off the key though, why doesn't it do it off the remote.. seems a bit backward that.

It probably doesn't, or they would not sell aftermarket windows addons for mk4's.

I think this is where the 'remote locking' kits, such as the 'rightclick' VW lookalike flip key system become very usefull. You could physically disable the 'full closure' on the key barrel switch, add the £24 aftermarket 'VW' style flip key remote system, and still have full door and remote windows functionality, with none of the Mk4 'windows' security risk.

sorry. if i stuck a screwdriver in the lock and turned it, the windows would open??? is that what we are saying here....crikey.

apologies for my numbness i'm a bit dense were motors are concerned ... love em but they baffle me some time.

no, its not quite that simple.... something has to happen before you can do the trick with the screwdriver.. i dont want to say though because of obvious reasons
